My observations from the 1st pre-season game

I have very mixed feelings about this team and (as many of you know), A LOT of questions about the roster and Coaching / Front Office.  All of that being said, here are my observations:

QB: Eli didn't play and Eli is the BEST of this team so the Quarterback position for this game was at best a question mark.
Unfortunately the answer to the question for me is that there is no one behind Eli who is equipped to handle the bright lights of the NFL (especially in the glare of NYC). Nassib was not mentally prepared to start (and while the OL was far from stellar...I'll get to them in a minute) he showed little pocket presence, rarely (if ever) took advantage of his mobility and never set and threw through his body all night. In short 9albeit a 1 game sample) he failed miserably as a starter. I saw one pass all night that was placed where it was needed to be placed. Literally every other throw was an under throw, not placed to give his receiver the advantage in the match up, and often put the ball where he was pretty much begging for the receiver to fall awkwardly, expose his body to a big hit and otherwise get hurt on the play. I won't bother evaluating the 3rd stringer because I don't see him on an NFL roster this season at all.

WR: Shephard looks like the real deal and I'm excited to see him pair up with Odell. He literally bailed Nassib out on the short hopped long ball that he did a reverse
lay out to catch (I was afraid he was hurt because of the awkward come back to get the ball). Geremy Davis and Roger Lewis have great potential...this unit could be one of the Giants strengths.

All You Need to Know About the 1st Quarter and the Game

The Giants led 10-0 at the end of the quarter but that was the result of a stout Defense which offset some sloppy play by Nassib and certain players of the Offense.

First let’s give credit on Offense. Geremy Davis +3 ran nice routes. Shane Vareen had a 19 yard gain on a cutback and ran well and I graded him a +2. Surely to be a big contributor this season. Sterling Sheppard had a huge diving catch, similar to what he did most days in Camp. He also had a nice block downfield on a run and was open on 2 other occasions +4. Orleans Darkwa got a +2 from me. Whitlock +2 had a nice lead block and a nice play on Special Teams. Both Centers (Richburg and Jones) played well except for the high snap by Richburg that Eli would have caught.

I have a slightly lower grade to Pugh -2 because of a couple of poor blocks, Jennings -1 because of vision on a run, Donnell had a nice block downfield but a bad penalty gave him a -1. Newhouse was a 0 grade as he had a nice run block but he gave up 2 pressures. Will Tye failed to block his man downfield but had a nice catch and
yac. Hart was a -1 along with Seymour.

Pre-Season Game One, Offense: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I went to the game tonight with Ed Vette and Rich/Mighty G. After a short tailgate, we went into the stadium just before the lightning caused about a one hour delay. Once cleared, we went to our seats, which were up top end zone, slightly left of center. Excellent sight lines to track the play on the field.

The Good

Don't panic about the final score. The Giants' Ones absolutely dominated Miami's Ones on both sides of the ball. Both units played with confidence and strength; they pretty much pushed Miami around. This all happened with their future HOF quarterback and All-World wide receiver sitting on the sidelines. The back ups and depth need some work, but this is going to be a very good football team. Most starters were out by the second quarter: it appeared to me that, throughout the game, the staff wanted work out the back ups to see what worth they might have. In the end it was some good, some bad.

as the other poster stated it is a 23 yard fg, but your point makes sense.happy our team won.
This feels like a sort of perfect storm type of situation here, which is kinda what it takes for the Giants to win a game these days.  The wind neutralized the passing game quite a bit for KC, and their QB while good isn't exactly known for his arm str...
I suspect Apple's Mom being sick has had an impact on him.Don't rule the kid out because I think he has talent.Next year the team must be fixed. My guess is he will be a plus for is next season. He is still young enough to turn things around.
That's true probably do deserve to lose if you miss it.  But given you just missed an XP on a supremely windy day.  Why not take 1 more down?

Rookie kicker makes two critical kicks in tough conditions New York Giants’ placekicker Aldrick Rosas has been having a miserable time the past few weeks. Entering Sunday, he was just 10-of-15 on field goals and had missed kicks in five straight games. The day turned out to be a miserable one to be an NFL placekicker. Gusty winds between 20 and 30 miles per hour, sometimes gusting higher than that. Rosas first kick, an extra point, got caught up in the wind, basically stopped, and flew off to the right of the uprights. No good. To add to...
