I hope this means that Gardner will get another shot as a starter.  He impressed me and it will certainly help shore up an overall weak defensive outfield.

Gardner can't hit a lick, so don't expect him to be playing everyday.

As to the .5 runs per game addition, I would anticipate more.  I'm thinking about 4.7 to 5.0 for Vazquez this year and a record below .500.  Now I do admit they are better with him than without him, but I have maintained all along the price was a bit too high for my liking.

Be describe how you surmised that Gardner "can't hit a lick" based on his 09 season.  Before he broke a thumb, he was on his way to cementing a 300 avg, 385 obp.  They'll have a fourth OF added before the spring.  Not including the Rule V guy who they are high on. But he'll get his ABs this season.  Carbrera is going to be moved by Atlanta.  They have the Minor-League Player of the Year coming up as a CFer.  Plus 2 incumbents on the roster.

As for Javier, "overpay" has to be judged against the reality that a starter or two might break down during the season.  They have Hughes staying in the pen.  There is nobody in the minors who is ready to step up in the rotation.  And they haven't re-signed Gaudin or Mitre.  Vasquez got Sigmund Freuded to death his first turn with the Yankees.  He was a mid-term all-star that season.  He hurt his shoulder, continued to pitch through it, and had a poor second half.  His ERA should be lower than Burnett's this season.  He has much better command of his breaking ball than AJ.  In my mind, it's a solid acquisition, although I'll admit that some people think the inclusion of Soriano, the young starting pitcher the Yankees gave up, swung the deal in the Bravos favor.
