Right on, Lenny!  I tried to buy the blu-ray version of it twice but both times I couldn't get any dialogue on it & had to send it back.  A few weeks ago, I signed on to DirecTV & am getting STARZ for free for three months.  It was on yesterday & I DVRed it.  If you want it in your library, I can make a DVD of it for you.  Just let me know.  OK?

Jim, many folks have reported the same issue with that BD disc.  Most have solved the problem by manually changing the audio output on your player from PCM to bitstream.  I did read that Samsung was working on a firmware fix, so maybe other player manufacturers are as well.

Semi-related - I have a dvd-combo player - cd/dvd/sacd/dvd-audio - and used to have trouble playing the occasional high end audio disc - Steely Dan's 'Gaucho' in dvd-audio format was one. It played fine in lower resolution (redbook cd layer), but wouldn't play the high-res.5.1 surround track.  A newer firmware released by the player manufacturer solved that issue. Seems tech standards are becoming a thing of the past, unfortunately.
A sarcasm detector?  Yeah right, like THAT'S a good idea.

The other day I got "The Longest Day" on blu-ray.  FANTASTIC!!!  It's so pure & clean that's it's better than when it first came out in the movies.  Lenny, you've gotta get a blu-rau playeer with a HD TV.   :ok:

Jim

Maybe one day. I get most of my movies from my local library. They have all the new releases, but nothing on blu ray. So, as of yet, having a blu ray player would be of no use to me.

I watched "Larry Crowne" this afternoon.  A nice little movie.  Hanks & Roberts teamed well together.

Jim

I didn't want to bring this up on the other thread.

WHAT, you have never seen Raging Bull??????????

My friend, you must go out and rent it NOW. As I said before it was voted the best movie of a decade, the 80's.
It is in glorious Black and White
Robert De Niro is simply amazing. He gained 30-40 pounds for some of his parts in this movie
The boxing scenes are just brutal, nothing like this was ever done before in this style.

I remember a few years back, I recommended this movie to one of our younger member on this board, who had never seen it. I completely raved about it, as I love this movie. he came back, after watching it, and basically hated it. Why, I never really was able to understand, but I know your movie likes and dislikes Jim, and you will love this movie.
Acting-just award winning
Story---award winning
Cinematography-award winning
Story-if you really get into it, award winning.

Just a must see movie.

In BluRay, the fight scenes will be even more brutal.

I just watched "The Adjustment Bureau."  A lot of BS, but a good show.

Lenn Lenn Lenn, ya gotta get a blueray player, get a good SONY, they also UPCONVERT older DVDs to a near BR standard. Stay away from the Samsung and Sharp players, they consistently have software and hardware problems. ANY DVD looks better on Blueay

I just saw Snow White and the Huntman. My overall impression of the movie was that it was just average. The special effects and orginal story line were the positives of the movie. I had a hard time believing that Kristen Stewart was Snow White. There were a few scenes that were a bit sappy. Maybe it's becuase they needed to stay true to some parts of orginal Snow White. The movie is very dark and almost gothic. This movie is not a bad idea to see in the movies, so you can get the effects from the battles and special effects. I would recommand not paying for it (if you have the triple play with Cablevision), if you can.

Met with my buddy Jim yesterday. We had lunch and spent some time discussing movies, our likes and dislikes. I won't go into that but we recently both saw 'The Iron Lady' but we had slightly different takes on it. Jim liked it very much, myself, I thought it was a bit boring. One thing we both did agree wholeheartedly was that Meryl Streep does just a miraculous job portraying Margaret Thatcher  and she did deserve the Oscar for best Actress. We also discussed Ms Streep in length. I, myself,  aren't a fan of hers. never really liked many of her movies, but I will not deny her ability as an actress. I recently have gotten to like some of her newer movies, maybe because she has tried her hand at many factions of being an actress, like comedy, musicals etc. My DW adored her in Mama Mia, and I thought she was fantastic portraying Julia Childs in 'Julie and Julia'.
Portraying Ms Thatcher, she has that English accent down pat and she also takes on the look of whom she is portraying.
So again, I thought 'The Iron lady' was a bit boring, espcially in the way the story was told (thru flashback), but Ms Streep was simply excellent. You should see the movie just for ehr portrayal of the English PM.

Just finished watching the Swedish version (original) of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."  Terrific movie!  Much, much better than the American version.  It's a complete story & ties up all the strings EXCEPT...  It leaves it wide open for another one.

Don't fret Jim, you have 2 more to go.

If you look back a few pages, I did my reviews of the other two movies.

If memory holds, I felt the next installment was not as good as 'Tattoo' (Girl Who Played With Fire), but the last in the series (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's nest) recovered from a dull start to  a rip roaring second half and fantastic conclusion).

I still feel Tattoo was the best of the 3, but now you are hooked I'll wait till you see the others.
