Against my better judgement I caved to see the new shrek movie with Amanda ... I have to be honest I was pleasantly surprised.  While not as good as the first two IMO utterly was leagues better than the third (which to me was a total piece of crap).  We saw the 3D version but after avatar and how to train your dragon it was pretty poorly done.

The best new character IMO has three lines but they're great lol .. I don't think I'd pay to see it again but its definitely worth a rental.

I saw Brother Orchid recently on TCM.  It starred Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart.  Robinson plays a gang leader who is double crossed by Bogey.  Robinson survives gun shot wounds and hides out in a Monastary.  Nice movie with comedy and drama.

Sorry Jim, but friday nite movies had to wait until Saturday afternoon. I had a ball game last night.

Anyway, today we watched 'The Road'. a sort of post apolyptic tale of a father and son trying to survive. It stars Viggo Mortensen.
I really have mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand it is a good story with great cinemaphotography, but it is truly depressing and not very much action, if that is why you watch movies. I liked it and I didn't. I was glad it ended, so that makes it a bit on the worse side, but parts I enjoyed very much.
It is different. If I had to rate it 2 1/2 stars. It missed the mark too many times and was just too much of a despair type of movie to make it a big hit.
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

Saw "Invictus" last night.

Dissapointed in myself not being aware of what happened in 1995.  Perhaps it was the 500 cold calls per day boot camp.

I was aware of the great New Zealand team and the monster player the Dallas Cowboys were looking to recruit yet I was very unaware of Mandela, etc.  After a bit of research, I learned most of the New Zealand team had food poisoning only a short while prior to the game.  In a video I found, a player mentioned if the game was played a day earlier New Zealand wouldn't have had a team due to the food poisoning.

Better movie than I though.  I bit slow at times yet made me aware from my little world.

It being a holiday weekend, we took Two movies out for weekend viewing. Last nite we watched 'Leap Year', a real chick flix that went absolutely no where. even the Mrs wasn't enamoured with this one. For myself, I fell asleep about 1/2 hour into the movie and enjoyed that much better.

Friday night movies has been moved to Saturday nite movies for a while.

Last night we watched the new 'Alice in Wonderland'. Or I should say, we tried to watch it. both of us never made it past the Mad Hatter. Sorry, but this movie was just horrible. The cuteness of the original Disney version was gone, and replaced by something some one somewhere, must have thought would go over very well. I hope that person, persons were fired immediately.
Maybe you can tell, we did not like this movie one bit.

Its being June 6th, I thought I'd watch the appropriate movie.  But, instead of "The Longest Day," I watched "Saving Private Ryan."  It's still a GREAT movie.

Just got back from Get Him to the Greek... if you liked 40 Year Old Virgin, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you'll definately LOVE this movie.  On a side note, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs steals the show.

No movie this weekend, as I had a very late game last nite and company today and tonite.

The way these movies have been goiong, that could be a good thing.

I did have time to watch a couple on the DVR, and one was 'The Wild One' with ex hunk, Marlon Brando. While not a great movie, it sort of set the tone for many to follow, and Brando was great. When it came out, and I was a teen, everyone wanted to be Brando as 'the Wild One'.

Just got back from blockbuster and saw they had Part One of "The Pacific" in BluRay.  Does anyone know how many parts there are going to be?

This weekend we watched TWO movies.

First was 'Edge of Darkness' with Mel Gibson. On the box, it said, rated R for bloody violence, so my wife took a pass. Yes, it had bloody violence, but not that much of it. The first half of this movie wasn't very good. In fact I was at the point of saying, "OK, I've seen enough, this really isn't what I was looking for". but I stayed with it, and you know what, it wasn't half bad. In fact, the second half was pretty good.
It started like a million other Hollywood movies, cop (or anyone else) has some one from his family killed and he seeks revenge. Yes, revenge was the driving force, but there was a whole lot of story to get thru before the revenge factor takes over. If anyone does rent it, try and stay with it, as it will get better the longer you watch.

Second movie, was one I had seen before, 'Shutter Island' with Leonardo DiCaprio. I really do not want to search for my review way back when, but I'm sure it will be about the same. This was presented as a thriller, and one that would scare you. Just not the case. It was OK, but I would liken it to an average Hitchcock movie, some thrills, but no where near the suspense. It was gloomy, and depressing, and my wife didn't like it at all. It does have a great ending, a real surprise, but other than that, just nothing special. If you haven't seen it, it is not a waste of time, but no where near the build up it got when it came out.
