Jim

I get most of my movies out of our local library. they have a decent video collection, with all new released being added each week. I am trying to get them to get the new releases on blu ray, but to no avail so far. I'd say it's noce to get all these video's for free, but what we pay in added library taxes, to an already inflated all other taxes, makes it hard to survive here on Long Island these days. Anyway.............

I do think you will like this trilogy.

Don't know if I have given a mention to this one before or not, but here goes anyway.  It's Big Fan, and it goes on my DVD this afternoon as part of my pre-match entertainment.  Go Giants.....!!!!!!

last night we went to the movie to try and see Hugo, which was nominated for all sorts of Academy Awards. Alas the movie was sold out when we got there so the only choice we had was a fairly new movie, which got very good reviews, and in keeping with our quest to see more of the movies nominated for Academy awards we saw "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock among others. (Nominated for Best Picture)
Now this movie hasn't gotten the wide play of many of the releases at the end of last year, but it got excellent reviews. It is about a man who dies in the WTC 9/11 tragedy and his relationship with his son while he was alive. After his Dad dies, the son is convinced his Dad has left him some sort of hidden message with a key he found, and he goes on a quest to find this message.

The movie is very well made, and the boy who plays the lead is excellent. The people he meets along the way are an excellent part of the movie especially Max Von Sydow.(best supporting Actor)

That said, this movie is depressing, and even though there are moments of humor, the entire movie is made to tell a story that is just not a happy one. to say I didn't enjoy the movie would be a bit far fetched, but this is just not my type of movie. It seemed as if it didn't want to end (and I had to pee very badly). The ending is satisfying and it really isn't what one would call a 'tear jerker', but it is SAD, and I mean, VERY SAD.
I would classify it more as a woman's type of movie, but just to show how much I know, when the movie did end, many in the theater applauded.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, just not my taste but an excellent movie overall.

Just this afternoon, I got the blu-ray 50th anniversary edition of "To Kill a Mockingbird."  I'll watch it tonight.

Since no one saw any movies last week, let me chime in here.

last nite we watched, 'The Ides of March' directed, produced and starring George Clooney. It is a movie that can play right into today's headlines of Politics and a presidential election run. Parts were fascinating, other parts a bit dull, but overall, I liked the movie. I might have liked it better had we not been bombarded with electioneering for the past 5 months or so.
Basic premise, two guys are running for the Dem nomination and they are neck and neck going into the Ohio primary. After that it takes the usual Hollywood twists and turns, but it is done very intelligently and the acting and the story were good.

If you are not sick of the GOP primary already, catch this movie.

Gritty, engaging documentary with a lot of heart -- tough subject but very worth watching. Not sure how much longer it'll be available but you can watch The Interrupters free right now:

I saw both the new Three Musketeers and The Tower Heist.  Both aren't bad if you are killing time for an afternoon. . .

Sadly, No Jim.   I am not to the point of wishing I could get back about 4 hours of my life, but they are not ones I would go back out and watch time and time again.

Hey Jim, have you gotten to see The Artist yet. Now an Acadamy Award winner. It deserved it.

I really thought they were going to give Clooney he best actor award. Didn't see his movie yet, but for a 'body of work'.

Hard to believe Streep's first Oscar since Sophie's Choice, 20 years ago

12 in a row without a win. She sure deserves it.

We were away all of last week, so I didn't get to watch many movies, but I did DVR a few that I wanted to watch when we got back.

Last night, for the umpteeth time, I rewatched 'Blade Runner' with a Harrison Ford who get younger every time I rewatch it. (Maybe i'm just getting older )

Anyway, I consider Blade Runner a great movie. It may not be to everyone's taste, but for me it is the 'Film Noir' of SciFi fliks. With the dark undertone, and just the way Ford narrates the movie, it just brings back memories of many 40's Film Noir classics. With a terrific cast, just a movie ahead of it's time.

I haven't seen "The Artist," Lenny.  It's already gone.  But, I ordered "Midnight in Paris", on blu-ray.  You recommended that one to me too.  Did you see "War Horse?"  I hear that's good too.

He Weeze, cut that to about 8 1/2 hours and forget GF III, what a waste that was.
