I'd like to hear the excuses of all the Roethy lovers on the board.

You know the first time he was accused of this, my first thought was "no way, this is just a girl looking for a pay day"

Now, this is the second person making such an accusation...you gotta wonder.

...and if it turns out to be true, I feel guilty for assuming the first victim was lying.

When I heard of the second incident my first thoughts were, "thank God we didn't draft him over Eli".

MG,

All of us make lousy mindreaders and predictors of the future. We looked at what that they did in college and high school and maybe the combine to define what a player will do in the NFL. If they had no trouble with the police or school rules and regulations, how do we know what they will be like years later?

Ben came through with two starting wins as a SB QB. Very good. Two women say bad things about him, very, very atrocious. Nothing in the past that I remember reading about would lead us to the second about him, just the first.

Unless there is something that the Steelers knew of his behaviour, that they didn't tell us, how would we weigh bad behaviour in the mix.

When he won the second SB, I wasn't thrilled, now I am. Hard to believe both women can be lying.

Let's see how this plays out.

Too me this is the worst part of professional sports.

The Pittsburgh Feelers? Just a thought. Maybe Big Ben has a new benchmark.

Excuses for what,an unproven accusation? Like all 20 year old college are stable?
As much as you all would like to see Ben be condemned as a serial rapist, for whatever reason, this too shall pass.

Slick I think most people get one pass (in terms of accusations).   When you are on your second one, in such a short time, you have to start thinking something is wrong.

Andrew nyg  I was thinking thee same thing about the first "victim" but you just have to begin to wonder at this point.

Ben maybe has a serious problem that is no longer manageable.

Lets hope for his sake he gets help with this problem.

I'd say something was wrong after the second conviction, not the second accusation.
He's a good looking, millionaire, star athlete, who is not about to give up a normal healthy desire for sex because he ran into a couple of publicity seekers,or money hungry bimbos.
If this one proves to have a legitimate complaint and can prove it, I'll join the condemners, but is a day in court asking too much for anybody? Talk about rush to judgment. Look for all charges to be dropped aftera couple of interviews with this kid.

Hey, Sam56, do you come from Great Britain like Ceri?  Your spelling hints at that.  Just wondering.

And, Slick,  THANKS!

it doesn't mean he doesn't throw better than eli.  He still has a bigger arm and is consistently more accurate.  Maybe in NY this doesn't happen to Ben ... maybe it's worse.  Who knows.  From the get-go, my opinion on Ben was that he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.  He's big, not to smart, cannon of an arm, and tough as nails.  Eli is (football) smart, has a fair arm, is inconsistently accurate, will probably NEVER get into off field trouble and will be easy to sign.  I still would've liked to see Big Ben in Big Blue throwing to Plax behind our '07 or '08 Oline.

Doesn't mean I'm not an Eli fan, I just think on paper, Ben's still better.  If he gets into so much trouble he can't make a start (Plax, Vick, Lawrence Phillips, pacman Jones, etc), I'll concede he is a wasted talent.

You wouldn't honestly say VeeJay Singh is a better golfer than Tiger just because he's not a dirty dawg, would ya?

Golf is an individual sport where football is a team sport.  A big aspect of a QB's game is leadership and in that area Eli excels and  big Ben isn't even in the same class.

seems to be enough of a leader to win 2 SB's.  Like I said, the litmus test should be whether he's forced to miss a start.

Even if he is innocent of rape (yet to be determined), the absolute best thing you can say about him is that he is guilty of astoundingly bad judgment.  He has a civil suit pending for sexual assault and goes and has sex with a 20-year old college student in a club?  We cannot rush to judgment that he is a rapist but we can certainly rush to judgment that he is an idiot.
