default mail client refers to the email program that pops up when you click on email links.

In internet explorer got to Tools>Internet Options   In the pop up window select the "Programs" tab.  There you can set Hotmail as your email

ok i found my way there.
the only thing listed is 'use current email program" which has a bullet in it.
the problem being is if i try and click a emaill addy such as a scrambled one on craigs list i get the warning so i havent found the 'problem".
 its kind of curious.................

yeah, i know what im looking for and im NOT finding it.
i, also getting crap trying to open up emailed microsoft files. things like finacial spread sheets and such. one thing ive run into already is that the computer doesnt want to recognize certain programs for sending files.
i have tyo be careful since i know just enough to get myself in trouble here even though i backed it up to disc with no prob. windows 7 makes ome things pretty easy.

Do you have Microsoft Office on the new computer with Excel?  If you don't you might want to down load open office, which is free.  As for your other issue, I am at a loss.  You might look around here for an answer though
