Three weeks ago Ceri threw out the idea of Pouncey as the Giants first pick

http://giantsfans.net/message_board/index.php/topic,12387.0.html

Wes Bunting's version 3 mock draft:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Mock-Draft-30.html

Quote
15.   New York Giants: Maurkice Pouncey, OL, Florida
The interior of the Giants’ offensive line struggled last season, and some youth at the center position needs to be added.

I am not deadset against it - but we were 8 and 8 last year and we have more glaring needs - specifically on D and the expectation is we get a starter at 15 - not O'Hara's back up.....But I like the kid and I would love to grab him - not at 15...If were 11 and 5 and a playoff team - maybe...

Pouncey could be the starting LG. A little more beef and power for the interior. Especially since the Skins will have Haynesworth and Kemoeatu inside

Pouncey has the physical ability to become a very good OC in the NFL with a year or so of good coaching to improve his technique. He shows potential to become a very solid pass blocker, but for now less so as run blocker. He's better as a zone blocker than as a pile driver that's for sure; not that that's all bad.

But suggesting him as a potential pick at 15 is nothing but a red herring. He wont be taken in Round 1, not by the Giants or by anyone. The pertinent question, I'd say, is whether he'll go in Round 2 or Round 3.

Cheers!

For a team like the Giants, picking at 15, our #1 pick has to be a starter. We have too many needs right now, to pick #1 as a FUTURE starter, and back up right now. While this guy may have all the tools, he should not be our #1 pick.

I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

Our D sucked last year. I (how bout u?) recall that with vivid memories of us not bein' able to stop anybody when it counted.
PLEASE, lets stop with the talk of takin' an O Player with the 15th overall pick. The O doesn't need 1st rd. help to be competitive. Diehl & Snee r a fine pair of G's, & Suebert is more than good as a backup.

We need a Mike in the worst way. After today McClain may be out of the running. So our sights may be set on a DT in the 1st rd., then LB in the 2nd rd. Dependin' on the true state of health for Phillips, we could go SS in the 3rd rd.

Jaime - so you think the Crohns knocks him out of consideration? I actually like the idea of drafting Pouncey. He starts at LG from day one like Snee did - Slide Deihl over to RT and Beatty at LT and presto, new OL for the nezt 3 years at least. When O'hara's contract is up, move him to Pouncey to center,

I've been thinking that there are 2 positions where there are very few TRUE difference makers in the NFL.

Safety and center. Pouncey sounds like a difference making center.

Pouncy would be a big reach at 15 given that he is very likely to be available at 46 if he's thought of that highly by you, nosebleed.

Painter - That was uncalled for. I thought this was a board with class where all opinions were welcome. Since you seem to have forgotten, this is the link to what you all said when it was proposed that the tailgaters move here:

http://giantsfans.net/message_board/index.php/topic,10361.0.html

And here is the link for the guidelines:
http://giantsfans.net/message_board/index.php/topic,46.0.html

Today, I started an analysis of Wes Buntings player ranking versus his mock draft (if you know who he is) at pick 15, Pouncey is the best rated player available. I'll post tomorrow.

Cheers!!

Sorry. I didn't imagine that you'd interpret what I said that way. It certainly wasn't intended as any sort of criticism. But I'll bear in mind your sensitivity in the future.

Bleeder, don't think this forces him out of consideration. But I think Chron's makes him a tougher choice @ 15th overall.
Then again, it all depends on how the Jints have him graded.

I really believe it's going to depend on what position starts getting drafted in the 1st 14 picks. If say LB's start getting drafted, I could see the Giants reaching or maybe dropping back a few spots if they don't believe the LB that want is worth a 15.
I can see them taking a OL or even a DT if they are so highly rated over who is left.  They need to take a def started that will improve what ever position that kid plays. It would be great if the LB they want is available at 15 and worth a 15th pick.

Bleeder, shake it off. Painter is this Board's version of Stew, back in the day. Seen others respond similarly to him as u have. Recall recently somebody compared him to a sledgehammer. I reached out to him by name when we all came over. He never responded, so I let it go @ that.

Personally I would be very upset if we went for an OL with our first pick in this years draft, we all saw the way our defense played last season, miserable.. I would be onboard with a OL in any round after rd1 and rd2 but right now we have defensive needs that outweigh any immediate ones on offense.
