Is a replacement DT more of a priority than MLB?  I don't think so but if one of our DT favs is there at #15, I say grab him and go LB in Round 2. Question is what DT could be there that would trump McClain, or Spikes?

I take your point, Phils. The only DT the Giants current have who is at all suited to playing a 1-technique NT is Cofield, and that's mainly because of his work ethic. He has rotated there with Robbins on occasion. But it may not his best position, and I do know that he prefers to play 3-tech. Still, Canty, Alford, and Bernard are not ideal NTs. So, if the Giants intend to continue playing an Under 4-3 base as they have for the past decade, including Denny Marcin's odd ball variation which they played during the Fassel era, they may indeed be looking for an NT-type, Under Tackle.

The only one of the more highly-rated DTs that would seem to fit the bill is Dan Williams of Tennessee.  He is considered by many to be good late Ist round value, but I'm not sure that need would trump MLB at 15.

As for Mount Cody, I have too many concerns about him to want to consider him higher than Round 4. In fact, maybe not even that high for a 4-3.

Cheers!

I hear you Painter.  I am really hoping we come out of this draft with at least two defensive rookie starters and possibly three.  I feel like we have three legitimate problems (almost all equal in relevance) in DT, MLB and another safety.  I think my priorities are MLB first and then I'm split between another DT or another safety.  I do not want to count on KP being back given his type of orthopedic problem.  Given the style of defense we will run, do you think we go from strong safety/free safety to two free safety types who will divide the field.  If that's the case and Rolle is one, I think we need another.  Then again, if we took Earl Thomas in round 1 and grabbed Spikes if he fell to round 2, I'd be ok with that as well, however I still feel like we have a giant DT hole.  At a minimum, I think we to fill two of those positions this season.  Although there will be some good players possibly around in Spiller or Pouncey, we need D players more.
