It has nothing to do with the NHL, it is because the MSG renovations won't be completed in time for the start of the season. Also, I'd put Staal in the "young vet" category. This season will be his 5th with the big club.

As usual lacking grit especially on defense. Larry Brooks wrote a piece yesterday espousing what I said the 1st week of preseason, the left wing for Richards and Gaborik should have been Sean Avery. Who will muck in the Corners to get them the puck,Wolski? Good luck with that. Tort's bit his nose off to spite his face by allowing his personal hate for Avery to affect his decision. They will be improved just by Richards addition who will make Gabby more productive. Rupp and Prust are jst not enough muscle. They are both willing, but either are really good fighters.
For those who care they are on versus  tomorrow at 1:00 pm with the Kings.

Was wondering the same thing. We still don't have a legit Heavyweight. Still don't know why Orr wasn't re-signed?

I haven't been this pumped about a Ranger season since the year they signed Wayne Gretzky (96-97).  I really believe this team is one of the top teams in the East and could end up having a deep run.  Between the maturing youth, Hank in his prime, the addition of Richards and depth in the farm system to pull off a trade at the deadline to add the final pieces.  Things are in place for a big season.

The Staal situation does concern me though.  If the Rangers can get him healthy at some point this season, I'll feel better but they need him.

He his a young vet.  I just put in the other category b/c he's only 24.  This concussion could be an issue however.  We've seen Crosby, Lindros and a few others when they get post concussion syndome at young age.  I don't want to pull a knee jerk reaction but, with all these young defensemen, it wouldn't be the worst idea to move Staal within a year.

He came a long way last season and I'd rather not move him but . . . .

Mike Rupp is 6'5 250. He can scrap with anyone in the league.

I'm perfectly happy having tough guys like Rupp and Prust who can actually play than a goon wasting a roster spot. BTW, pound by pound there isn't a tougher player in the league than Prust.

Suburb, u r spot on with Prust. Wish we had a couple more just like him. He plays & fights his guts out.
But he's a Middleweight, & it's not fair to expect him to mix it up on a regular basis with the Leagues elite Heavyweights. I'd feel much better if we had one more legit Heavyweight to go along with Rupp.
Agree with your "Goon" position.

We will be without Staal for a scary amount of time.
We lost today 3 - 2 in OT to the Kings. Short handed to end the game, we kill that. Then we hold in the O Zone (dumb) to go short handed four on three in OT. So far same old Rangers, got out shot & Hank had to stand on his head.

4-0 win in Vancouver is nice after a slow start.

Hank stood on his head and mcdonagh is a beast. Stepan will be the left wing on the first line and will fit right in. rupp is a nice addition to the squad. a big guy who can handle himself and can play
