Move Staal?  Hell no.  Staal is a top defenseman, he's everything we need.

Its risky either way.  I understand where you are coming from.  But I doubt because of your point that the Rangers will get equal value for him.  With this team being close, I would not want them to take a short term step back.

I doubt it would happen this season.  That head is a time bomb if he's 8 months into recovery and still not back.  If he comes back with any promise I'd move him next offseason before he gets another concussion.  I just hope Sather doesn't panic and move McIlrath for a defeseman.  That is, unless the return is a guy named Weber.  No question McIlrath was drafted to bring to the backline what is sorely missing.

0 - 2 vs. Oilers. Guess the road caught up with us tonite? Cause we stunk up the joint with plenty of uninspired play.
Most were off, except Hank (whom left middle of 3rd with cramps) & Prust. Two dumb O-Zone Penalties by Newberry & Rupp while down 0 - 2. We looked lousy on a 5 - 3. Our PP is in need of a specialist coach, it's dreadfull.
Asnimov was benched 3rd Period. Plenty of others should have been benched as well. Richards was a no-show.

I still think they made the wrong call in that draft with not taking Fowler who had 40 points as a rookie last year.  I know the Rangers D needed to get tougher, but their PP was as big of a need.  Plus when you have a high first round pick, you take the best player available in that spot and fill needs later in the draft.  If McIlrath turns into a Jeff Beukeboom type player than it was a mistake pick, IMO.

I am worried that selection will be another Jessiman/Parise mistake that Sather has made.

Staal needs to be off until February or March.  it takes time.  Frank Gifford took the year off.

Still can not believe Staal's brother did this to him....neither can my brother.

Prospect Watch - Kreider and J.T. flying and good numbers for some of the more anticipated prospects.

Rambo, I'm good with a #1 Pick for a Buke type Player. Think it's just what our D is sorely lacking. A punishing Blue Liner that can play the pivot & drop the gloves. Be nice to c a big body protect Hank for a change.

Also, saw Rupp drop the gloves, not impressive. & I know Prust has the heart of a Lion, but he's a middleweight.
An enforcer that has a regular shift, kills two Birds with one stone. Clark Gilles would be the prototype there.

You can get a d man like that in the latter rounds.   You take the best player in that spot, IMO.

Im with you jaime. We need big mac. we have plenty of finesse players. I think del zotto will be big contributor on offense as season moves on. biggest thing missing as it has since beuk left is play over and someone takes a swipe at hank to be cute. Soon that player shortly after the swipe will find himself laying in a heap in the corner after big mac arrives on the scene =D> =D> =D>

Not sure what his ceiling is but McIlrath has a bit of a twin in the physical department named Samuel Noreau.  He might just be a fighter but at 6'5 I think he's one to keep a distant eye on.

NY, he caught my eye in the Prospect Tournament. He fought what is suppose to be one of the toughest Prospects, & held his own.

Looked him up myself. Sam looks like a fighter but I'm thinking at least 3 years down the line and out of mind for now. watching us getting pushed all over the ice tonight and miraculously clinging to a 2-1 lead with 6 minutes left

According to the blueshirt bulletin, who nicknamed him "thor":

Oct 23, 2011

Quote
The Prospect Park: “The Mighty Thor AKA Samuel Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) had an assist to set a new career high in assists as his Baie-Comeau Drakkar continued to roll winning via the shoot out 5-4 over the Chicoutimi Sangueens.

If we were to name a prospect who is most improved then right now Noreau deserves serious consideration. While 0-6-6 +7 is not going to change the world; when you factor in that Noreau has gone from goon to starting defenseman then it is a very good start.

Noreau is one of the reasons why the Drakkar have gone from QMJHL cellar dwellers to the 2nd best record in the league at 11-4. Last season the Drakkar were 21-40-4-3 17th out of 18 teams with a goal differential of -110 (currently +30).” (10/23/11)

As a fighter Rupp is the 2nd coming of Jay Caulfield who was 6'4"  245 lbs of solid muscle. Like Rupp he was willing because that was what he was on the team for,but not only do I remember him winning a fight but I honestly don't remember him landing a solid punch. Dave Brown of the Flyers consistently pounded him as he hung on,which was his style. Rupp is easily the better player though. It will be interesting when they play the Pen's because his ex teammate Aaron Asham pounded him twice when he was a Flyer and Rupp was a Devil and Penquin.Asham is a generous 5'10" 195 but is one of the best pound for pound fighters around.

I've already read an article naming Kreider and McILrath as potential trade bait. This would be typical Sather lunacy, draft them then trade them before they play. If he does trade either his fate should be very similar to Khadafy's.

The Rangers just beat Winnipeg 2-1 on a fluke goal by Callahan. Their nauseating offense is again stuck on two goals which seems to be the norm forever. If it doesn't improve there couls be an early trade with Dubi and/or Anisimov involved. It is a shame that Avery is in the minors and a true minor league talent like Christian is on the team contributing nothing. Avery's   forechecking skill and Grit would fit perfectly with Richards and Gaborek. Amazingly they won 3 of 4 on the western trip with 9 goals scored. They are averaging 2 goals per game..good grief.
