what's new on your ipod?.....
« on: October 09, 2011, 09:25:33 PM »
i know there are a few music buffs here so i thought this might be a decent thread.....i'm almost 60 years old but i absolutely love current music....i'm a rock and roll fan through and through and my fave band of all time is ac/dc

the latest cd i have been listening to is  "torches" by foster the people, who are a garage band from california featuring mike foster....there is a song that is becoming very popular on it called "pumped up kicks" that tells the story of a disturbed young man about to shoot some people including his abusive dad....when i first heard it, i thought it was like a pop tune with a catchy melody and then when i realized what the lyrics were saying it put the song in a very different light....great tune and a worthwhile listen

tunes on the cd to check out are  "pumped up kicks" and  "houdini".....enjoy

My favored band is Pink Floyd, ala Mr. Waters...

My iPhone have all different music, from classical to head banger monster rock and anything between, like the sound track of The Last of the Mohicans, Bach toccata and fuga in F moll. My iPad has no music...

I may get you hooked on Hungarian rock, if you're interested Terry... :surrender:

Terry, I'm a huge Gordon Lightfoot fan and I don't believe I ever discussed this with you when we were together. Actually I would really like to spend more time with you when you are in town. It's always in a group setting, but be that as it may. Knowing you are from Canada, do you like his body of work? Have you seen him in concert? I never have.

I play a little guitar, write a little, etc. and I enjoy playing his material. I would say he was influential to some extent.

Kevin and i talk music when we get together and share some.

ed....gord lightfoot is like a god in canada....i have seen him live many times

he does a week at massey hall, which is a very old theatre with great acoustics, every year and it's very hard to get seats..the whole week sells out in an instant....he is a great story teller of canadian lore

i took carol to see him at massey hall  , probably ten years ago, and she absolutely loved the show....he is in pretty poor health now and i'm afraid he is nearing the end of the road....go Giants!!!!!

Terry, according to this, he has a fall tour scheduled. Do you have anymore info? Seeing him is on my bucket list:

ed....he is still playing/ touring but he is becoming very frail....the opportunities to see him are dwindling so if it is on your bucket list, i would see him on this tour if possible....go Giants!!!!!

edit to add....i just looked at the tour schedule you posted ed, and it only covers about a 3 week span which really ties in to the poor health/frailty  aspect.....gord used to tour all year long and spend a full week in some venues

He is about 73 years old right now. All those from that generation are approaching or in their seventies. Wow, something huh? I mean eh.

My phone has the extremes on it.  I literally have A to Z (April Wine to Zappa - or Abba to Zebra) on it.  I have some heavy metal (not death metal - that makes me ears bleed) and classical music (Mozart and Beethoven).  I have the classics (Free, Zepplin, Queen, Beatles, Kinks etc) the "Hair Bands" (Poison, Warrant, Def Lepard, Giant, etc), the Arena Bands (Styx, Journey, Genesis, etc), and Progressive Music (Yes, Rush, Dream Theater, etc)

But lately I have been listening to Pandora (or now IHeartRadio since it has a Pandora station feature that is commercial free until the end of the year).  I set up a station for an old band that few people outside of Florida know (Unless they are TSO fans) - Savatage.  That "Station" as introduced me to "new" (some are older some are new) bands that I am really enjoying like NightWish, Hammerfall, Dreamland, Dragonfire, Rhapsody, Edguy, Primal Fear, etc.  So, needless to say - these groups are now also on my iphone. . .
