With the lockout and missing training camp and more than half the season, I give him a pass on his mistakes.  He is way behind and struggling to catch up.

I'm with you - I was just thinking if I'm Garrett,  that's where I'm going.   Ross wishes he had those alibis!

He is a rookie who was injured. I'd go at him too. This year is a training camp for him.  I'm happy to see how he looks next year.  He is fine in terms of speed and reads, he just makes mistakes and gets fooled by QBs and receivers.  He will get past that. It just takes experience.  If we had 2 solid CBs ahead of him he would be covering 3WRs and playing nickle/dime. Not going against 1 and 2 WRs.

The big pass play was not Prince's fault.  He was in a Cover 2 and Deon Grant was slow to react to his assignment.

The 70 yarder to Laurent Robinson?  Cover 2?

Couldn't be.

That was the sideline play right?  Collingsworth himself commented on it.

He needs safety help.  The whole DB corps appears confused and out of place too often.  Fewell's idea of wrist bands and the continual mayhem indicates something is wrong in communcation IMO.

When it comes to M2M and zone the key is to watch the corner's butt pre-snap.  If the corner's but is facing the sidelines than it's zone.  The reason for that is the corner needs to funnel his man toward the inside of the field and away from the sidelines (which are harder to cover in zone).

If the corner's butt is facing toward the middle of the field that the corner is playing man and will attempt to force the player toward the sideline were you can use the sideline to help defend his man.

So watch how a corner plays a man.  If he is playing zone and fails to funnel his guy toward the rest of the defense he is the one at fault rather than the safety who is given the near impossible task of trying to defend the deep sideline.

We understand Cover 2 the same -  right?  A corner in Cover 2 passes off the #1 that runs thru them to the safety responsible for the deep half on that side.  A corner "passing off" a guy would then look beneath them because he's responsible for the flat on his side.  "This guy's gone, now who's coming under"

I find it hard to believe that the CORNER and not the SAFETY would be chasing the #1 70 yards downfield.  Just doesn't make sense.

Jim,

At the NFL level it's not uncommon for teams to employ hybrid cover schemes that combine M2M and zone on the same play.  It's possible the team was playing just that, where half the field was in zone and the other half in M2M.  Another possibility may be that Prince was in M2M on his man if no other players lined up or came out to his side of the field.  In that case he might have gotten safety help, but with that side of the field being flooded, there was no guarantee.

Rich, +1

Sure would like to know how Rolle isn't responsiable for Deep Zone? This is Football 101.
S needs a complete overhaul this comin' Off-season. Ciao to Rolle, Grant, & KP. Sure would like to c Sash get serious snaps over the next three games. Would go a long way to indicate his true potential.
Thinkin' Rolle, Grant & KP would make similar mistakes as Sash (for different reasons), but would result in zero upside.

The Girls have three very good receivers with Robinson playing the position as well as anyone in the league the last couple of weeks. I am not surprised that a rookie corner, who missed half the season, struggled in coverage last night.

some of you may remember back to when Tim Lewis was here the players were having trouble with communication and Tim Lewis said he relates to the players all the time about communication and the players said they weren't getting anything from him and it was all being miscommunicated to them from the coaches, I was just wondering if we're having the same kind of problems right now. Something has to be seriously wrong because every week we see these guys out of position or just nowhere near the play, these things can happen but not in every game, something is really wrong here...

Prince has not played well.  No excuses no blaming this years scapegoat for the Defense.  Next year with a full training camp and pre season he should be better.
