Physically these are not the same corners who won a Super Bowl.  Ross no longer has the speed to make up for mistakes.  Plus the communication issues IMO are more with the safeties than corners.

Reese isn't sending signals but he and his staff provide the players receiving them.  He also allowed the hiring or mafe the hiring of the guy sending in the signals.

This is all part of Roger Gooddell's plan.

DBs are not allowed to disrupt timing.
DBs cannot physically enforce via bone jarring hits.

Again it will take 1 or 2 teams to allow their defensive backs to play like George Atkinson and Jack Tatum to turn this modified two hand touch game around. When a championship and/or a playoff game is decided by a tick tack call that is all too familiar, and the respective team owner marches into Goodell's office like a bull in a china shop(literally) that's when change can happen. Change back to the way the game is supposed to be played. I suppose under today's rules Gary Reasons would have been flagged for leaving his feet on that goalline play in Denver.

And Ronnie Lott would be broke from all the fines incurred and be looked upon as a marginally dirty player a la James Harrison.

Me thinks we have the "Double Whammy" goin' on @ S. Coaching sucks, as do the Players.
Total overhaul in bad need here. Unload Fewell & the the rest of the lame D Staff. That would be; Peter Guinta (Secondary/Corners), Jim Hermann (Linebackers), Al Holcomb (Defensive Assistant), & Dave Merrit (Secondary/Safeties). Robert Nunn gets a pass for Defensive Line Coach.

Now the Players; Cut Rolle (way over-paid, mistake prone mouth), Cut KP (hey we gave it a shot, can't carry u any longer Bro), Deon Grant (no worries there mates, he's on a 1 year deal). Keep Tyler Sash. It's unknown @ this point if he's a Player?

Draft a FS in the 3rd Rd. to replace KP. Sign a FA to replace Rolle. Sign a Cap-friendly Vet to replace Grant.
& Sash makes four S's.

I don't know that it is so, but it has been suggested that teams like the Giants and Cowboys, among others, have overcomplicated their coverage schemes in an attempt to disguise them. It has involved mixing m2m and zone coverages, stunting DBs and interchanging responsibilities between corners and safeties.
Feckless blitzing often can make it worse as was the case for both Giants and Cows, last Sunday.
Confusion, miscommunication, however we characterize it, we aren't seeing just poor coverage, we are seeing (blown) no coverage. Frankly, I don't see why safeties should ever be out of position in playing 2-deep zone on obvious passing downs.

Of course, when they did play a lot of simple two-deep zone, it was not received with approval around here either. However, I thought they were doing a very decent job playing Nickel/ Cover 3 on the obvious passing situations, last year. I don't know what reasons they have had to something different this year.

Cheers!

Fear of becoming unemployed makes people sometimes do unwise things.
Hard to believe our D back seven Staff have a handle on things. Hey, like Paint said "We r seeing blown (no coverage) coverages" . We r payin' a guy $8 M per to do that, what a sham!
Obvious passing situation, & our S thinks he should be in the Flat? Oh Brother...JR please turn the page here.

So where is Peter Guinta in all of this?  A few years ago he was supposed to be one of the best.  Did he suddenly forget how to coach and teach?

He only coaches the corners, Merritt coaches the safeties.   I think this split is a major contributor to the communications problems

Although the comments only reflect one particular play in what has been a much more rampent problem it would appear confusion and/or miscommunication is definitely a culprit in this regard if not others.

Quote
"Prince Amukamara, who had given up a 40-yard reception to Robinson at the end of the first half that allowed the Cowboys to take the lead with a field goal.

On the play, Amukamara said the defense was in a Cover-2 zone and that would usually mean he lets the wide receiver release to where a safety is over the top. But the safety, in this case Rolle, was looked off by Romo and Amukamara said he should have made the adjustment.

“I should’ve stayed with my guy,” a dejected Amukamara said of the play.

“I take pride in not letting guys catch the ball on me. It’s still a long season; I still have a lot to learn. Even though it’s only my fourth professional game, I still can't use that as an excuse. I'm a first-round pick so there are a lot of expectations, so I should be meeting them or exceeding them.”

Alot to ask of most corner backs not to mention a rookie in his 4th game.
