There are 17 crews working NFL games. To date we've seen 12 of the crews with Ron Winters working weeks 1 and 8 and Jeff Triplette weeks 3 and 13.
We have not seen Bill Leavy, Carl Cheffers, John Parry, or the 2 Walts- Anderson and Coleman this season.
Interesting that the two crews who have worked two games this year are the most heavily criticized.
Familiarity brings contempt I guess.

For me, it's intentional grounding.  Loss of yards PLUS a down?

The Intentional grounding rule is the way that it is for the following reason. Assume you have a QB about to get tackled 12 yards behind the LOS. If he is tackled, his team loses 12 yards and the down counts. Now if he just hurls the ball away just before he goes down, you want only the loss of yardage to count but his team should get the down over. In that case, his team is benefitting by the commitment of a foul. That makes no sense.

The NFL and NCAA rules are carefully studied for multiple years and everyone of them has a rationale. They are not just thrown out there at the whim of the owners or to make things more difficult. I have yet to see a suggestion that would improve the game.
