No list of DE's?

Kalil is rumored to be staying in school

Really like Cordy Glenn who remindds me of Cannon and DeCastro is supposedly really tough.

Doesn't look like a lot of 2nd round caliber Linebackers in this year's draft.  Means they better take one early or else they'll be waiting till round3 or later again.  YOU HEAR THAT REESE!? Strike early.

Burfict could be a 2nd round steal. He had a high first round grade coming into the year. A bit crazy, but doesn't every defense need a crazy guy?

Maybe, but that guy has all kinds of problems going along with him.  I'm not sure I want that kind of trouble on my team, but the talent is undeniable.  They better have a good long interview with him before even considering drafting that guy.

Giants maybe in a situation where they can trade down in the first round/early second round and get that LB'er in addition to having extra picks to fill other needs.  But knowing this regime, they'll stay where they are and select another DE.

Linebackers will slip.  Maybe slip even farther considering what's happening across the league.

IMO, Burfict will not be there at the end of middle of round 2.  I think he goes in the 20s in round 1.  He is a machine out there. Once his combine numbers come in, people will forget that he has a chip on his shoulder.  also, he has not had criminal off field issues, just discipline.  My understanding is that he is a good kid, but plays rough and hard.  He will need some coaching to avoid helmet hits and fines, but he is not someone who will shoot himself in the leg.  He has some head issues, but not criminal issues. I think he will be a force in the league.  IMO, he is the best interior linebacker skill wise in the draft, now that Te'o is out.  He can play a true Mike in our current defense and has the smarts to run a defense.  He brings energy to the field too.  He will get the defense psyched.

IMO, Martin out of Stanford is overranked.  He has trouble with fast DEs in the Pac-12. Int he NFL, they are all fast and bigger than Pac-12 DEs.  I think he would be a mistake.  I thin Mike Adams out to OSU is for real. He will also be there when we pick in round 1, unless we win the SB.  I am hoping we get a good OT or a LB. But the center out of Wisconsin is appealing.  I am going to be at the Rose Bowl (had to make an easy call of staying here for the cowboys game or flying out west for a warm new year's weekend.  my mom offering to take the kids made the decision even easier).  I will watch him against Oregon's speed rush and blitz packages.

I think there is a great RB steal in Temple's Bernard Pierce.  He plays bigger than 220 and has good speed.  I like him a lot.  Of course I am partial to LaMichael James, who is another Sproles waiting to happen.  Both are round 3-4 guys.

I never understand when a person says someone will be a Pro-Bowler and then they say they should be picked in a latter round.  By definition, if they're going to be that successful, they should be highly ranked.  It is not about looking backward but looking forward.  I think 31 teams wished they had taken Tom Brady in round 1.

That also goes when someone drafts a guy and other said the team reached.  Nobody knows the rankings of all the players on every team's draftboard to be able to say that intelligently.  Fans just look at internet draft sites to reach that conclusion and that is flawed.

The reality is that the sellers are all the kids getting drafted and the buyers are all the teams.  When a team makes a pick, the market has spoken.  The market is not a bunch of us sitting with our list of players from GBN Report.

Those are kind words for Burfict, Mike!  Let's face it though, the kid is a head case and will be off most Draft Boards and more than likely the Giants' Board as well.  This team drafts choir boys only.

I believe the Giants believe that Goff is their Mike of the future.  So I don't think they consider that a high position-of-need.  Instead, there are no true Sams on this Roster right now.  Among highly ranked Seniors - Zach Brown of NC would be a great fit here in Round #1 as would Courtney Upshaw of Alabama and Bruce Irvin of West Virginia (although the latter is probably 2nd Round material).

What if Safety Mark Barron of Alabama drops to the Giants?  How about Guard Cordy Glenn of Georgia?  How about ORTs Mike Adams of Ohio State or Andrew Datko of Florida State?  As evidenced by the Prince pick this past year, you never know who will fall to the Giants that is so highly rated that you couldn't pass him up.

I absolutely love Courtney Upshaw and think his baseline football skills translate into multiple positions.  Does that mean he can be a future Mike in the NFL and be successful?

If the Giants take that position on Goff/MLB that would be a highly irresponsible one. Goff (and for the record I was one who touted him from the time he was picked, because of his size, strength, and intelligence), has proven nothing at this level to date...not the least of which being that he can stay healthy. There is no depth behind him, and he will be returning from an ACL tear. If, in the face of all those facts, they ignore the position again...this defense will be in even more trouble than it is now.

Those are great names and some pretty large monsters.  I like Glenn a lot and Barron is tank at safety.  A player like Upshaw is going to need really good COD numbers at that size.  He's huge.

Linebackers will slip.  Maybe slip even farther considering what's happening across the league.

That goes against all avialable information on the subject related to Linebacker draft picks since 1981.    This is one of the positons if not the postion that scouts seem to be the most accurate in determining value.    Although the pool might be limited the picks are fairly consistant with where the scouts perceive them to be prior to the draft.

Burfict is a young kid with a chip on his shoulder.  He plays like a maniac on the field, and he gets called for fouls because of it.  The problem is that he has gotten a few costly 15 yarders this year for complaining to the refs.  IMO, it can be coached out of him.  He needs to grow up.  He has never been arrested, never had any rumors about alcohol or drugs, never gotten into fights with teammates.  He is a problem for the other team.  I think he will probably be like Ndamukong Suh, who also needs to be coached to control his anger. But if he produces like Suh, its almost worth it to take him.  I have seen Burfict play live twice and have a few tapes of him.  He is simply an incredible athlete. He drops back well.  He drops back better than some safeties rated highly on draft boards.  He seals the gaps, hell he seals gaps that are not there by burstign through them.  He overpowers bigger offensive linemen who are not used to players going full speed 100% of the time.  He has no off switch.  I remember the draft hubub about LaVar Arrington when he was leaping over offensive linemen at Penn State. Burfict is even more exciting.  I think he will be a top starting interior LB in the nfl. I would love to have him.

That said, I trust the Giants to evaluate a guy's head.  Part of the problem is that he was coached by Dennis Erickson in college, whom I think very little of.  Erickson is notorious for letting his players get away with murder, look at his miami and oregon state days.  I think in the right system, Burfict could become a great leader and a guy who gets a defense up for every play.  This year has been a disaster for AZ State.  Erickson was a terrible coach and once he was fired, the team gave up.  Burfict reportedly refused to play in the last game and Erickson had to talk him into it before the game.  It was a bad scene, but maybe not because of Burfict but because of how the team was handled this season.  I'd hope the Giants meet him and interview him.

anyway, enough about him. Tapes will start coming out soon and everyone will be able to judge him.  Just keep an open mind I ask. Also, the giants went to Manningham, so they will risk a player with a bad head if they think they can work on it with him.

Mark Barron is a late round 2 guy, but he should be there when we pick in round 2, unless we play into February.  I would take him in round 2, but not in round 1. Mike Adams is one of my favs. I would draft him in round 1.
