Next 2 games are a referendum on Eli. He takes care of the ball = Giants in playoffs; he doesn't = Giants out. Need I remind how small he plays in HUGE games?

I would think that the game is will be on the defense.  If the defense plays well Eli will not be under as much pressure to make something happen.  Less pressure = less turnovers

Respectfully, I would have to disagree on a couple of fronts.

these games are a referendum on this whole TEAM and the extent to which it might get blown up personnel wise (especially defensively).

The last BIG game I remember Eli coming up small was probably the Carolina playoff loss at home , what was that....5 years ago.

Eli has been a nice, progressive elevation of his QB play every year...this year he has stepped up to the elite level ( no pun intended)...his accuracy this year leaves me speechless, especially the deep sideline pattern.  His play is the ONE thing I never worry about, much like Simms at a similar stage of his career.  We are in the best hands possible in that department.

Now the rest of it does always worry me, but NOT Eli.

if our defense wasn't playing so miserable we could have absorbed those 3 ints and moved on to a win over the Skins, but right now one false move by anybody and this defense can't help us to overcome it.

The last two games are more of a referendum on Coughlin more than anything else.  His career is on the line, and if the Giants come out flat in either of the last two games, the Giants will likely be 8-8 at best and he is done.  There is no way that a well coached team could be flat against 1) Rex and the Giants' hated co-tenants; and 2) The Cowboys for (possibly, if the Giants win Saturday) the division title.  A team shouldn't even need any coach to motivate them to play these games, but another effort that looks like last week, then it is clear that Coughlin will be gone.  If not gone, then maybe something like Spags (if fired) may come back as a co-head coach for a year or two before Coughlin rides into the sunset.  Changes will have to be made if the team is not 2-0 in the next two weeks.

+ 1, GO.

How many games do we win this year without Eli? One? Two?

As my brother can attest to, I was really down on Eli to start this season...he is not taking the next step, this is as good as it gets, etc.

I have watched in awe this year, my god he is more in control of this offense than even Gilbride.  I think he should be calling the plays, with the OC making suggestions at times, much like the truly great ones did in the '50's and '60's.  He is in total command of his craft, as good as this team will ever have ....period.

My frustration this year is I do not want to waste his prime years slugging around on an 8-8 team.  He has done the job, filled the bill that we projected for him when we traded to get him.

He will go down in our history as the BEST QB to ever play for this team...and that is saying something because I revere Conerly, Tittle, Sir Francis, and Phil.

Without HIM, this team would be drawing direct comparisons to our 1966 1-12-1 team.  The defense on this team is WORSE statistically, and that team did have some offensive weapons in Homer Jones, Aaron Thomas, Joe Morrison, with the likes of Earl Morrall, Tom Kennedy and Gary Wood as QB's.

we would have 2 wins without him at the MOST.

IMO - anyone who comes on here and states that Eli folds under pressure has either not been paying attention - or - is trying to stir up anti-Eli sentiment.

Schwab, u may want to revisit that statement ;)

2011 edition of the NY Giants is capable of beating anybody, & losing to anybody. Total crap shoot as to whom shows in the next two games? This is exactly why bein' a Giant fan is not recommended for the faint of heart.

Hence the 0.500 record with Wins over New England and Dallas, and 2 losses to Washington.

one more thought about this teams success with Eli this year and how it could have been so much better. Eli's problems come when he has to try really hard to make a play and either throws into coverage or tries to get the ball to a guy who has run the wrong route. Now if the defense was playing at a higher level Eli wouldn't have felt that kind of pressure to have to make a play, we would then punt the ball and let our defense make the stops, but not so this year because our defense can't be counted on for anything but mistakes with the exception of JPP..
