They played good defense in spurts against a Celtics team without Pierce. They can become a much better defensive team, but to do that, Stoudemire is going to have to buy in a lot more than he did yesterday.

Hopefully Shumpert doesn't miss much time...as he was making much more of an impact on both sides of the ball than I anticipated this early into the season.

Rondo...really showed what having an effective PG means to a team....he singlehandedly kept the C's in the game yesterday.

There was a Celtic breakaway in which one of their players was streaking down to dunk it or a layup and Amare was maybe 5 feet away between midcourt and the Celtics foul line.  Amare pulled up and let him go in uncontested.  He had a great opportunity to run him down, try to block it and create a huge momentum changer.  That's what great defense can do.  Amare doesn't have think that way.  It's ashame as that kind of play can be contagious and make a yield a greater team effort defensively.

Chandler's help defense and paint patrolling were very good.  I definitely saw him alter shots just by filling a spot.

Got to have a whole team to play an entire season plus playoffs.  Not sure the Knicks have a whole team yet.

I didn't get to see the game live...  Just saw the recap I'm actually excited about Baron Davis.  I know he is older but he plays ball like Hulk Hogan wrestles.  The louder the crowd the better the performance.  MSG is a great stage.  I hope the we learn a little defense.   Glad we got a big man in Chandler.  Just my random thoughts.   I'm going to the Golden State game on Wednesday ..  Can't wait!!!!!!

Any win any year, over the hated Celtics, even without Pierce is a most enjoyable W. My dislike of
the Celtics began  back in the days of Jim Loscutoff, Bob Brannum, Red Auerbach, Tommy Heinsohn, etc.

Went to the game last night...   Oracle Arena isn't bad.  Decent number of Knicks fan showed up.  Too bad the Knicks themselves didn't.  To lose to a Stephen Curryless team is just sad.   I think I'm just bad luck for my teams also.  Ah well. Still had fun.

If you look at the Amare/Carmelo versus say Kevin Garnett, the latter wants to play defense.  He wants to chase down a guy and block his shot from behind or step in a lane and smother a ball handler.  Amare and Carmelo play defense so reluctantly.  IMHO, they will never win a championship with them as they won't consistently play defense.

IMO we are not winning with coach that doesn't believe in defense. After this season the coach will be the man currently hibernating in montana

Guys..I know that's their reputation, but have either of you watched their last 4-5 games? (Grimes you put the EYE on 'em with this bump  ;)  )

They won (b4 last night) their last 4 games with a SMOTHERING defense and transition offense. Even in defeat last night, they played good defense (once Carmelo got hurt, it was like the offense suddenly didn't know who would put up the shot...and STAT had a horrible night shooting). Memphis played good defense and caused a lot of TO's which is what beat the Knicks last night.

If anything the offense needs to find some kind of a rythym...standing around watching Carmelo post up...or throwing up 3's is no way to play in this league.

Yeah,  Its funny when I dont have an opportunity to watch the team they do well.  When its the game of the week all hell breaks lose..  I compliment Shumpert for playing well and then he thinks hes MJ in the game I watch and Melo gets hurt.   I gotta find a nice balance.

Andrew - I don't think four games says anything about their commitment to defense.  Both have had long careers and played for coaches other than D'Antoni yet they've never been top defenders.  I agree with you that D'Antoni has not historically preached defense, but these guys haven't either.

Even if D'Antoni gets replaced, Anthony will still be unwilling.  Karl is as strong a coach as is out there and is also someone who preached defense, yet Anthony resisted.  He is about isolation plays for him and that's it.

Have you watched the Nuggets at all this season?  Now that he's gone, the ball movement on that team is amazing.  They are playing as a team and the results look good.

Philosophers, Karl is not Jackson. As parcells used to say Jackson has the pelts on the wall. Bring him in and even carmelo will listen
