Rich, I wasn't talking about you. But since you mentioned it.............Given the following scenarios, what action do you feel in your torn up heart (there is a county song just begging to be written in there somewhere, I think Kevin and I need to work on it) would need to be taken:
1) The Giants lose to the Falcons
2) Beat Falcons but lose in the next round
3) Win round two but lose NFC Championship
4) Win NFC Championship
5) Lose Superbowl
6) Win Superbowl
Yes Rich, I truly believe I can go to Indianapolis this year. The defense has given up an average of only 16 points in the last 3 games and has given up less each of the last 3 weeks. Nobody has commented this except one of my favorite Players, the under the radar Mathias Kiwanuka and myself. What say you!
My brother has a favorite saying whenever you talk about something he did wrong (usually be ignoring advice of his family)--- "mistakes were made"
I can't help but think that this applies to Reese and Fewell. I think Reese goofed by not bringing in Chase Blackburn (or similar talent) when Goff went down. I think Fewell screwed up by insisting on running an overly complicated defense. Still despite those mistakes, both men have corrected their mistakes and the team is in the playoffs and even got themselves a home game and a division championship.
It would seem to me, based on the cupcake schedule the Falcons enjoyed, the Giants have every chance to beat them. if the Giants win or at least play them close, I am willing to go with the same coaching team. Although I am less than happy with Fewell. I think Fewell is capable of being a quality DC but more often than I would like he suffers from lapses in judgment and hurts the team's defensive performances.
Gilbride's return is fine in my opinion. KG had done a good job and I have noticed he has even dialed back the long ball (thus giving the offense more consistency)
TC seemed to have lost the team after the Saints game. Yet TC fought on and a few heart to heart talks with his key players along with the credibility that came from his demonstration of his own toughness (hence walking the walk) he has recaptured the team and has earned himself another season.
As to what I would like that's a tough one. At the beginning of the season I would have been happy with a single playoff win. At this point I would still be satisfied with a single win but I will not be truly happy until the Giants get themselves into at least the championship game. Although I understand a trip to the big easy would most likely lead to disaster (then again in 2007 I thought there was no way I could see the Giants coming out of Dallas the second time with a victory). Vegas has the odds of the Giants winning the Super Bowl at 20-1. I would agree with that. Of course in 2007 I would have probably said the same thing as the team prepared to go to Tampa. I though a win at Tampa was possible but no way they get past the Cowboys and the unbeaten Pats.
