Do TC and Eli really need this win today?

IMO, this is a really important game for TC and Eli today. As good as they have been, they have a achieved a playoff win once in seven seasons, and this will be eighth. With a franchise QB in his prime, they need to move beyond what they accomplished in '07. Going one and done four of five times in the playoffs with three home losses does not reflect well on the coach or the QB, and this is going to be a very hot issue if they lose.

This is a winnable game today -Let's get it done!!!

Found this at another board and thought it raised an interesting question.

I agree that it is important but maybe not paramount.

Eli and TC will share this legacy together in spite of the fans desire to split Coach (any coach on the team) and QB and parcel blame for failure accordingly.  The simple fact is that the QB is an extension of the Coach....the QB is the physical embodiment of the Coach's will on the field.

Interesting question, Aikman was on with Francesa on Friday and said that he felt that there was more pressure on the Falcons to win this game.  His reasoning was that the Mat Ryan for all of his hype and regular season performances has yet to win a playoff game.

To me Coughlin saved his job getting into the playoffs but it would be nice for this franchise to win their first home playoff game in 11 years and the first playoff game at MetLife Stadium.

It would be nice to win a playoff game in more than one year in eight and in 5 playoff berths.

I need this win today!

I think any Eagle fan with all of their playoff wins over the last 8 years would take what the Giants have over the last 8 years over their championshipless years.

that's not the point though. yes, having a SB trophy is great, but those were the ONLY Playoff wins Eli and TC have ever had as a Giant. It is nice to get to the playoffs, but is that enough now?? Can people continue to live off of one magnificent playoff run?? In this day and age of 'what have you done for me lately', I truly think to establish a legacy, Eli, TC and even Reese, needs another playoff win to validate their tenure here. Or else, can we jsut chalk up the SB run as just pure luck??
I loved the 'run' but I am also getting tired of that just being the catch all for us to continue to not do well when ever we do make the playoffs. A win today, and all disappears. I truly think Eli needs this more than anyone to validate his terrific season.
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

I would also say yes.

Sure, the '07 season concreted this winning partnership and their place in NFL and Giants history, but this game could be the defining moment for the organisation's way ahead for the next half-decade, especially with respect to Coughlin.

I still don't understand why Eli would be under the gun.  He is the most important player on the team, but he is just one player, and no one could ask for anymore than he has done this season.

A win today doesn't change anything.  I work in Eagle country and every Eagle fan I work with would trade all of the NFC title game appearances for the 2007 season that the Giants have.

Are we happy now?

I am sure they would.  That being said that is behind us and winning the Super bowl doesn't mean that complacency should set in nor should mediocrity be celebrated.

We are Giant Fans winning it all is the goal, to do that one must win in the playoffs.

What we saw today is exactly what it is all about.  Passionate, hard fought football.  Aside from some penalties and pressure given up by the o line early and it was close to a perfect effort.

Happy they are headed to Green Bay and not down to the dome with the Saints.
