“Perry is a terrific coordinator,” the Giants’ general manager said. “He’s taken a lot of heat and that’s what you do in this town, you take heat. It’s what this town is all about and you have to relish the heat, and I think we do.”
Defensive end Osi Umenyiora said Fewell “called the best game I think I’ve ever seen called.”
The Giants defense, which gave up 114 points in three games against the Saints, Packers and Cowboys from Weeks 12-14 and finished the regular season 27th in the NFL with 376.4 yards allowed per game, has allowed only 28 points in the past three games. Fewell’s bunch was also the only team to hold an opponent under 300 yards (247) this past weekend.

1.  How much is O$i worth?

2.  Fewell may have increased his chances at becoming a head coach

A win next week and their stocks may soar.

The majoirty still haven't changed their tune.  Quite a few from my section barked when Tuck lined up at MIKE yesterday.  Voices from tailgators were heard, as oppossed to seached for, regarding the ridicule prior to the game.

Is it possible, the coach will held this together and apparently had a sit down with Tuck, had a sit down with Fewell after referring to his concerns about coverages as "grave concern"?

Getting tuff in the playoffs is what it is about.  The defense in 07 played played much better in its last 5 than it had in its first 15.
There is quite adifference in what was on display yesterday vs. the last 3 weeks and thae majority of the weeks before.

Regardless of my thoughts on Fewell during this past season (which have been mostly negative) I was very impressed with the defense yesterday. Stopping Atlanta and several 4th down plays (as questionable as those plays were) was phenomenal.

Right - it's a day to celebrate.   ;)

The statements made by Tuck and Osi after the game describe the difference. Its about working as a team instead of individuals because you can trust your teammates and you don't have to try and do more than you are supposed to do. When you try to do more, you open up and expose yourself instead of executing your assignment.

With all the injuries, there was a learning curve in positions manned by younger players. As they started to understand their role better, the game slowed down for them. The addition of Blackburn as many of us have stated was a huge plus. Getting healthy players back was a plus.

Then of course, it's quite clear that Perry Fewell made adjustments and changed some things up, such as going to more man coverage in the secondary. As NYSports mentioned in another thread, it's very likely TC got him back on track.

It's all coming together for the Giants right now on Defense. Hopefully Ross can play next weekend. The loss of an experienced Corner against Rodgers would be a liability for sure. They are playing with tremendous confidence right now and that is a huge plus.

Lets hope that confidence can endure, overcome adversity and deal with some Packer success on Sunday to give solid effort for play for 4 quarters on sunday.

The return of Tuck (and Osi) has been important, IMO.   Generally, Fewell has made adjustments and the guys coming into the Oline have finally settled, giving Gilbride more options re a balanced run\pass than he had even a few weeks ago.  We aren't chasing games anymore, but dictating things.

The swagger has returned and confidence has soared throughout the team.   We have momentum.   We are getting hot just when we need to.

Can't wait for Sunday!!

If Fewell got blame earlier in the season he should get credit now.  Just like Reese getting blamed over the summer for letting Smith and Boss go but getting credit now for Cruz and Ballard.

That's certainly true... even if "simplifying the defensive schema" may have been a result of the HC intervening and some of the defensive players mildly disagreeing with Fewell's complex system in the media. Couple that with having the defensive players being healthier than they had been for most of the season and the way they've played during the last couple games, then it is not impossible that the Giants will go all the way on the shoulder of the defense. When that happens, Fewell's stock will rise and I doubt that anyone on this and other forums would want him to go. I know, I'd want him to stay despite what I might've said about him before.

For the run in 07' the offense was simplified, and made more efficient. Now it looks like it's the dee's turn. To neutralize our pass rush look for the Pack to employ quick crossing routes. They will try to take advantage of Blackburn's deficiencies in space. D. Williams may figure prominently.

You are absolutely right. I blamed him too and somewhat rightfully so although I understood the magnitude of the injuries and now I must give him credit. It's his defense. As Osi said, his game plan the last two games has been terrific. The preparation of the players outstanding and his game time play calling right on.

Disagree.  One has nothing to do with the other IMO.  Osi claims Fewell "called the best game I think I've ever seen called" which doesn't indicate he called good or bad games prior.  We all know how many issues this defense has had.  Reese however, has been ridiculed by certain media members and fans yet since the draft yet made one comment early and has stood my words.
