NGT - Dumbest. Thread. Ever.

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/10/890719-do-any-other-fans-feel-cheated-playoffs-giants-rematch.html

It's hard to even begin to point out how many flaws in logic there are in this post.  The stupidity is overwhelming.  The OP seems to be mentally challenged.

Kudos to the members of the board calling out that nonsense.

I think it was summed up best by the poster who said "This guy wants a BCS for the NFL."

By using this guys logic, forget the two league system, and just have the Saints playing GB for the SB, as they seem to have been the 2 best teams. If this dude thinks the Pats are just so much better than all the rest, maybe we shouldn't even show up next Sunday???
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

BTW, his argument that the Giants aren't worthy is predicated on the foregone conclusion that the Pats will beat the Giants by 20.

I am sure I will be in the minority but I think I understand what is behind the post.  I am not saying his ideas were expressed well and I don't agree with what he exactly expressed, but I see the point he is trying to make.   There does seem to be a distinction between the best team in the NFL and the one that wins the Championship.    I sort of touched on the same idea in my thread about the 1986 Giants Championship and the 2007 (and possibly 2011) Championship.    As I said, there is often a clear distinction between the greatest and the champion.   That's a tough concept to wrap one's head around.   As was discussed in the thread it's what happens when you have a lose one and your done playoff situation.

If the Giants win it certainly opens up the bar stool debates.   Can the Redskins claim to have the better team because they swept the Giants?  Do Saints fans wonder what if the 49ers hadn't knocked them out of the playoffs?    Packer fans will be scratching their heads over the 15 and 1 Packers who could even win one playoff game.   What of Philly.  Anyone think Philly would have made some noise if they had gotten into the playoffs?   What if the NFC East hadn't tanked?  Last season the Giants couldn't get into the playoffs with a 10-6 record.  This year they get in with a 9-7 record and are now in the playoffs.

Now admittedly the actual question asked is pretty silly as the Pats couldn't beat the Giants at home.   So he really shouldn't be questioning Giants credentials.  Still I think I understand what is driving his question.

He obviously overlooks the fact that THE GIANTS BEAT THE PATRIOTS in the regular season.  By his ass-backward logic his own team shouldn't be there.

This is so misguided.

He starts by saying you need to beat the best, to be the best but than states a single elimination playoff "cheats" the fans because a team has done just that, "beat the best".

He than places more weight on regular season matchups and less on the playoffs  by invoking our 1-1 record with San Fran and GB.
Ironically if the Pats win it all the reverse would be true for his own team and if not than the Giants will have beaten the Pats twice this year and more importantly for the second time when it matters most; in the Super Bowl.

His own premise ignores what occurred last year by the 10-6 Packers, who he fails to list as his Super bowl unworthy teams.

The NFL is not about making the playoffs, it is about playing good team football when entering the playoffs.  The teams that do well in the playoffs, time and time again are the teams that were playing well entering the playoffs.

Hell ask the Giants, just getting to the playoffs is not enough, the team has to be playing good entering the playoffs, preferably on an upswing.  Tom Couhglin's  two best regular season records couldn't win 1 playoff game.  Yet 2 of the 3 times TC has had the Giants playing well entering the playoffs he has them in the Super Bowl.  The result, one win to date and hopefully another on its way,  with both at the expense of his Patriots and their combined 29-3 regular season record (07 and 11).

What an idiot.  Does he think the best team wins during March Madness every year?  In the World Cup (once you get to the knockout stage)?  In the NCAA football playoffs?  Anytime you have a sport where it is one and done, anything can happen.  If he wants the best team to win more often than not, then go to a 7 game playoff series.  Clearly you can't in football, but you get the idea.

Yes, in an ideal world the best teams would make it all the way to the title game and play for the Championship.  But this is sports, not games played on paper.

Also, I resent his "Giants are average" line.  They may not have been the top seed, but they still won their division this year.  You want to eliminate average teams?  Let's go to one division of 16 teams in each conference and rank the top 6 teams so only the best record teams make it in. Then, the Seahawks of 2010 wouldn't have made it in to then upset the Saints, or that the Broncos wouldn't have gotten in this year in a weak division.... or cut down the amount of playoff teams as well.

What he fails to mention is that the Patriots may be the #1 seed in the AFC, but I would put at least 3 NFC teams in front of them in terms of being better this year (Pack, 49ers, Saints), and you could certainly consider the Giants there too since we beat them in Foxborough. This ass thinks his team is so great, but are in a very weak conference.

A couple of them got it spot on.  The Giants are there on merit, because they won when it mattered.

I definitely like the fact the rest of the Pats fans got The Giants back on this.  That guy is a whack job.

Let's see the Skins beat us twice and the Chiefs beat the team with the best regular season record so the Super Bowl should be a Washington Redskins vs. Kansas City Chiefs affair. Just as logical as what that goof posted.

By his logic, there shouldn't be divisions within each conference and no playoffs.  Just have the teams with the best conference records go directly to the superbowl.  If I read his post correctly, he gives no credit to the teams who win their playoff games and earn their way to the superbowl.

here is what it is, make the (playoffs), and get hot and advance.

parcells stated it right, you must be ready to play and win.

the 2007 giants had to win 4 road games, no matter who they played.

the 2011 giants had one home game, they won easily, and two road games vs. solid teams.

seeing the best teams at the end, well each sport has playoffs, the team the plays better moves on, the others are out.

My take is that the guy is quite worried, almost desperate, afraid that the Pats will lose. He would rather have had the Pats play Green Bay, with a so-so defense that scares no one. Or the Saints, who play are basically mediocre away from home and whose defense sits 24th in the league (and worse away from the Super Dome). Or else San Francisco, whose excellent defense does not balance with a middling offense.

But he does not want to play the Giants, whose defense is playing equal to that of the 49ers, but much better than that of Green Bay or New Orleans, with the Giants' offense at this point (on a neutral court) essentially equal to that of the Packers or Saints (but better that the Niners). The guy is running scared, expecting in advance a repeat Giant victory over his Pats.

Anyway, that is my read.
