I don't see any distinction between the best team and the championship team.  IMO, the best team IS the championship team as they got it done when it mattered.

Any given Sunday...

The thread got to 36 pages rather quickly and then died a week before the Superbowl (EDIT-it was mod locked,  presumably for being too stupid to exist).

The moron OP's new thesis is that the Pats are still the best team because Vegas has them as favorites to win next year.  Because, you know,  Vegas is never wrong.

Like most trolls, he's contradicting himself by taunting Giants fans because the Pats have a much easier path to the playoffs in 2012. That means the Pats will be one of those undeserving teams that make the playoffs.

each team that plays in the playoffs must play well or they are out, that has been that way since playoffs started.

the giants did what they had to do to win it all, all the others didn't.

the giants were the only team to win on the road, which the poster didn't mention.

the 2007 giants, 2008 cardinals, and the 2011 giants earn the super bowl, who cares about the regular season, make the playoffs, play well, move on.

the poster also said the niners beat the giants in the regular season, but he didn't see the game, it was a close game, came down to the end, loss by only 7.

poster forgot that giants didn't play the falcons this year won 24-2.

I'm so bummed they locked that thread.  I wanted to see that guy get lambasted.

I read somewhere recently that the Giants were the first team to beat two number one seeds and a number two seed on route to winning the Super Bowl. It's really hard to claim that they were undeserving especially when you consider rash of season ending injuries and the absurdly difficult schedule. No team had to endure more this year than the Giants.

I can understand where this guy is coming from.  However, by now, he should realize that the "best" team does not always win the Championship in any sport ... not just football.  What the playoffs are all about is to first (1) get into them; and (2) just advance.  If often comes down to who is the hottest team at the end - and that is how the championship is determined.  What are you supposed to do?  Crown a champion based on the regular season and totally ignore the "tournament"?

Cases in point - UConn was 8th in the Big East last year and won the National Championship.  Alabama didn't even win its' own division this year.  Green Bay barely made it into the Playoffs last year.  The list is endless.

In the end, it's all about winning the Tournament ... and that is what the Giants did.  Therefore, they are the NFL Champions.

I think this guy should put the grapes in the refrigerator instead of leaving them out on the counter.  That way they won't go sour.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist
