Well, one thing has sure changed since 2008
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:34:37 PM »
There have been oodles of similiarities and coincidences between the 2007 and 2011 Giants teams going into the Superbowl, but one major thing has changed: most of the pundits are picking the Giants.  True, Vegas still has the Pats at -3 to -3.5.  But when it comes to the analysts, the Giants are the clear favorites to win the Superbowl.   Now, the seniment isn't, "they don't stand a chance" like it was in 2008, but if you factor out the analysts who are foolishly using full season stats to divine the winner and the ones who mire themselves in intangibles like the Ghost of Myra Kraft, the hot air is making the Giants balloon rise.

Now, don't get me wrong -- I know that the Pats were the overwhelming favorite to win Superbowl XLII and they blew that call big time.  And these are the same analysts that were 50-50 going against the Falcons and didn't give the Giants a shot against Packers.  So to say that they've known to be wrong is a major understatement.  But it's also very rare to have so many talking heads backing the Giants -- they wouldn't do it unless they were pretty certain. To go against Brady and Belichick still requires a lot of incentive.

This, of course, is driving arrogant Pats fans crazy.  So accustomed they are to being the favorites that this turn of events has taken them by surprise.  Every analyst who has picked the Giants is an idiot.  Any reasoning for their choice is wrong.  They've created a bubble where there's no way the Giants can win and Gronkowski is guaranteed 100% for the game and any one of their corners can cover Nicks one on one.  Also, Julian Edelman is going to get a pick 6, just to show them.  And any Giant fan who thinks they will win is arrogant while every Pat fan who is sure they will win is simply right.

There are no certainies in football, except for the one where the team that beats the Falcons in the playoffs makes the Superbowl.  But if the Giants win, the Pats fans are in for a very rude awakening.  If there are tears, and I will savor every last salty one of them.

Mmm... schadenfreude.

What the "experts" and the fans think has no bearing on the outcome.  It'll be a battle between two very good teams & whoever is better THAT DAY will win.

It's why they play the game.

So there's no point in talking about anything since it's just about what happens on the field.  Gotcha.

I Definetely find it funny how Brady has been acting, almost Easy E like....  Is it an act I don't know.  Either way I wanna destroy this team..

I just saw a PFT article that said the same thing about Bill B.   I guess the Pats are trying a different approach this time around.

As for the Pat fans, arrogance isn't a very good trait.  In the end, I think it's better to appreciate the game can go either way (any given Sunday and all that).   Heck just watching the Giants take down the 15-1 Packers at home showed how good a team had done before the game isn't a good indicator.   While I have a suspicion that the Giants are going to win in a blow out, I hardly consider that a sure thing.   Just ask the 49ers about the odd bounce the ball can take.

But doncha know... the Giants didn't win, the Pack lost because they dropped passes.  The Falcon played sh*tty, and Niners gave their game away.

The Pats, however, thoroughly deserved their win over Ravens.

Yeah that missed 31 yard FG was pretty much due the Pats brilliance.  Although I guess it could be as the Pat's score boards showed 3rd down instead of 4th which caused confusion among the Raven ST players

If Lee Evans catches a pass that he had complete control of for 1.5 steps instead of 2 the Ravens are playing this week instead of the Pats. YOu can say the Niners gave that game away last week, but so did the Ravens.  Perhaps even more so.

I hope the excuse this week is gronk wasn't at full strength and somebody stole brady's lucky underwear. That would be fine with me and also a parade in NYC next week. <:-P :drunk:

I see Brady's smug face and hope he gets a pounding.   Him and Welker.

The odds in Vegas are seriously out of whack, I agree.  CBS sports has the Giants across the board.

Watch Terry Bradshaw pick the Giants this week.
"17-14 fellas.  One touchdown and we are world champions.  Believe it and it will happen!  17-14 is the final.  Let's go!"  Michael Strahan, with 2:39 remaining in SB42.

I hope Bradshaw doesn't pick the Giants.  Him picking against Big Blue seems to be the formula for success.  As a matter of fact I hope the entire Fox panel picks against the giants (other than Strahan of course).

Here's a sign of the Apocalypse -- Jaworski has picked the Giants:

I don't like so many "experts" picking the Giants.  It's become a bandwagon!  We're NOT the underdog anymore, regardless of the Vegas odds.  More incentive for Brady & the Pats.
