As to Burfict - he will certainly be there at the end of Round 1 and perhaps Round 2 or 3.  He will be off many, if not most, Draft Boards because he was unable to control his emotions on the field and was pulled from numerous games.  He just isn't a good fit for the Giants.

Todge,
I was curious if your comment is based on of his on the field skill sets or a reflection of his on the field maturity and his reputation thast he is developing.

If the later, on the surface he seems just like the type of guy Reese likes to pull the plug on, i.e a high value talent that drops for other reasons than his skills.  He is a risk but he has one hell of an upside.

Assuming of course they feel he will not be a problem in the future.

Just curious & thanks again for the Brewer comments.

Burfict is said to be a quiet and gentle guy off the field.  On the field he is violent and sometimes leads to wreckless behaviour.

We already have a guy who gets overly emotional in Brandon Jacobs so Im not buying into the idea that JR wouldnt take a chance on him.  Ahmad Bradshaw has been known to get chippy.  And we could never forget Shockey.

Thank you Rich.  But I must apologize, I really don't want this to turn into a 'back porch' thread or a personal attack on Larry or anyone else for that matter.  I greatly admire his knowledge of the Giants and NFL in general and have enjoyed and learned much from his posts and insights.  A great poster.  I just wish the personal stuff would go away.  I guess the irony is that it didn't start with something he said about me, it was an inferrence about the character of another poster that I have met and like.

In any case, I apologize for starting the ball rolling down this alley headed for the gutter and I hope we can just move forward in a friendly and gentlemenly manner and use the board the way it was intended as Rich has spelled out.

Cheers !!

George,

I greatly appreciate that.  As always you're a true gentleman, so I can understand your concern..   Frankly I don't like to call anyone out publicly.  However Painter's arrogance has made him immune to all reason and any effort to get him to act in a civil and respectful manner has resulted in failure.   So since Larry thinks the moderators are beneath him and our pleas of civility foolish , I am left with calling out his bad behavior so that those he offends don't feel as bad.   Of course the other option would be banning, but I know that many people here are willing to overlook the bad behavior because they enjoy the positive aspects of his posting.   It's a difficult challenge and position we, the moderators have been put in, by Larry.   At this point public comments and actions seem to be all that is left.

Wow, I just got chills reading that. Reminds me of a certain player (cough - Plax - cough) we had on our team a few years back.

Burfict is kind of a lunatic from what I understand, but so is Ray Lewis and that's worked out pretty well for him.  he's got a ton of talent, but I'd trust whatever team takes him will conduct long and intensive interviews beforehand.

I think that teams put a lot more evaluation into a college LB to see if they are a fit for their system than you think.  There are different schemes - for example, Indy uses a free flow system where they don't ask their Mike's to play on the LOS.  So, someone like Pat Angerer is a fit their.  Here?  He is a smaller version of Greg Jones and would never last in the middle with the Giants.

I actually don't disagree with this, Todge. That said, I don't think teams say, "we can't draft this LB, he plays in the 3-4." If that was a valid metric, Sintim would have never been drafted by us. I do think the system the team employs plays much more of a factor than the system the player is coming from in evaluation. You acknowledge both these points in your post.

I don't think JR has neglected the position or there's a organization-wide policy to marginalize the position. More I think, very simply, there have been players available that had more value at another position of need. At least in the first three rounds, which seems to be the "money" rounds for most here.

Like Chris, I'd be curious to hear your take on Burfict.

That was a pretty sad performance, Rich.  I'll leave it at that.

Cheers!

Vontaze Burfict is a big talent physically, and is a middle linebacker. That would say top 10 pick. But he wont go earlier than the bottom 10; maybe to the Ravens or the Pats. We know why; it's the red flag with a C on it. It's not a C that reflects thuggery or thievery off the field but rather a lack of self-control on the field.
He seems to get a flag in every game for some sort of dustup. When he's not mouthing off, he is going helmet to helmet with people, or hitting someone out of bounds They say he has anger management problems. Is that it, or is he just a bonehead? That's what teams will try to decide over the next couple of months.

While more recently the Giants haven't been quite as character fastidious as once they were, I can't see them targeting Burfict although he'll be pretty high on their board unless they disqualify him. That's the way those boards work.

As they have no chance of getting Luke Keuchly, I guess Dont'a Hightower has to be thought a possibility as a SLB/MLB at 31/32. He could actually be their best value there if a 1st Round Olineman: Adams, Glenn, et al are off the board. And of course, the Giants might change their 1st Round Draft calculus by signing a MLB like Steven Tulloch, or D-Qwell Jackson, or Dan Connor in FA.

Oh the heck, it's too early.

Cheers!
