Key Matchups
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:29:43 PM »
What do you guys think are some of the key matchups in this game?

Rolle v Gronkowski or Hernandez.  I think Rolle will draw one or the other all day.  Rolle has got to hold his own here.

Jimmy, I think you won't see that happening. The Giants have to mix up the coverage or Brady will eat them up alive. You will see Kiwi on Gronk in certain situations too.

Don't forget LB J Williams.   He will have a big role trying to cover the Pats challenging TE duo.

Fair enough, they may well mix up coverages.

What do you all think of JPP and the Pats approach to blocking him?  Will they chip him?  If so, does it make more sense to line him up inside?

Just to name a few:

Umenyiora vs.  Light

vollmer or solder vs. Tuck

Dieon branch vs. Webster or Ross

Edelman or Arrington vs. Cruz

The last time these two met.  OSi didnt register a sack but was beating Light off the edge all day long.  My assumption (and it may be wrong) is that the Pats wouldnt afford Matt Lgiht additional help if it is Osi; but would if JPP is lined up at either DE positions using backs and TEs to chip.  In fact JPP was neutralized two weeks ago in just this manner.  If you line JPP up inside, it is not as beneficial to chip as it is to double team him with two OLinemen in which case both Osi and Tuck would be one on one

This game will be decided by turnovers, it really is the main game factor.

If you look at the last game, Brady had nearly 350 passing yards, Welker was 9/136, the feared TEs caught 2 TDs, but we still won the game.  It is not likely nor necessary that we totally shut down Brady and Welker and Gronk, what we need is an Osi strip sack or a JPP tipped ball to create turnovers. This game will be decided by turnovers, and to a lesser extent clock management.  If these two teams played a clean game with no turnovers, it would probably go down to who held the ball last.

Agree about turnovers.  Against the Packers and 49ers, ball security was emphasized.  It should be no different with NE whose defense is not that good but has survived on turnovers.

I'm more concerned about Hernandez than Gronk. that guy may not get the attention, but he is dangerous. He lines up everywhere and has amazing hands.  If Gronk is playing and drawing attention, we can not let Hernendez eat up man-to-man coverage.  They are the best team in the AFC for a reason.  Its a deep talented offense.  We have some tough matchups and its gonna be a tough game.

He is more of a matchup nightmare making him 10 times more dangerous and out of the no huddle.

I would look for Brady to try and get the ball out of his hands quickly.

He lines up as a halfback, in the I, as a TE, in the slot, outside, heck, I would not be surprised to se ehim take a direct snap. He is fast, strong and elusive.  While Gronk may be the hardest guy to bring down in the NFL, Hernandez draws matups that he can exploit.  Brady loves both these guys, and if you leave him alone, Welker will catch 15 passes for 150 yards.  This offense is a nightmare to defend.  The only way to do it is to get to Brady fast with the 4 lineman and let the nickle/dime do its best to cover the array of receivers, while not forgetting about the RBs who can also hurt you.  Anyone who thinks this will be easy is kidding themselves.  We have to get quick pressure and force Brady to make mistakes.  The Bills did it to him, and we have a way better pass rush then they do.

Sometimes I think if it were up to you Jim, there would be no discussion. That's funny. "I'm a Giants fan, try not to piss me off". ~X(
