I assume NE has probably played in Lucas Oil stadium more than NY.  That would seem to give NE and edge.  However, big brother Peyton is probably giving lil brother Eli all kinds of good intel on the feel of the field.  Advantage Giants?

I wonder if the previous Indy stadium that had a notable "fast track" didnt carry over to the new fieldturf one.. But any edge, to agree with the Strahan, goes to the pass rushers.

The Field Turf at Lucas Oil Stadium is considered the best of the artificifial surfaces, just a tad ahead of MetLife, the Giants home, in the player survey not because it's faster but because it's the most natural grass-like.
The surface in Lucas Oil really isn't measurably faster, it's just more consistent in it's general condition because it's indoors.

Whether we want to convince ourselves that there is an edge to be gained in Indy, it can't be counted on to affect an outcome any more than it could two weeks ago on the crummy grass in Candlestick.

Cheers!

Right, the current turf should not be much different to the Giants Stadium turf, but before the Indy stadium had a combine reputation for a fast track, which may be outdated in current references.  By the way, that other post about you being banned was really strange, out of order, and sort of hilarious ridiculous.

If there is an advantage or disadvantage to be gained\lost on this turf! eli will already have inside info on that.

Personally, I would have thought better traction benefits everyone, but especially so speed guys, like our DE's and fleet footed WR's like Cruuzz and Welker.

I really fear the unpredictable stuff. We can't script the game depending just on how they match up. I worry about early mistakes on defense that allow NE to get a couple of quick scores. Or on offense, one tipped ball and a pick six. Suddenly you can be down 14-0 or 21-0 and the game hasn't even really started. And you are in a hole.

Call me fearful, but I can't help it.

I'm in the same boat you are.  It would be ironic if the Giants lost this game on a freaky play.

I very much agree.  I'm more worried about dumb mistakes than anything else.  I suppose that we just have to remain confident that the coaching staff and the team leaders will keep the team focused and maintain attention to detail.  Attention to detail is everything in this game.

I am not concerned one way or another about turf or talk; it's of no consequence in my view. What always concern me are mistakes (fumbles, picks, penalties) and misfortune (injury, bad calls, bad bounces) because they can, and often do, determine the outcome. It goes without saying that falling behind by as little as 10 points would be an ominous portent as only once in Super Bowl history has a team overcome a 10 point deficit.

But I'm not going to fret over it in advance because it's just as likely to happen to the Pats as to the Jints. And, in any case, it would be unpleasant enough to see them lose without anticipating it in advance.

No one would ever mistake me for a polyanna but I am so pleased to see how well they can play when healthy, to have them back in the big one for the second time in 4 years, and to be able to anticipate some quality years ahead, that I am not going to feel beat down should they lose tomorrow. Perhaps, it's not in my nature to cringe in any situation, or maybe it's the result of having endured the fifteen years (1964-80) of losing seasons and missing the playoffs. Whatever the case; how fortunate we are.

Cheers!

Fast track in Indy

Posted by Mike Florio on February 5, 2012, 3:14 PM EST

I was on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium twice this week, and one thing was clear.

The playing surface is firm and tight, with little give.  Actually, the artificial surface doesn’t seem to have much more cushioning that the old green cement Astroturf product.

It means that the game will be conducive to displays of speed and agility.  Which would benefit the players who possess those attributes.
