I'm sorry I never saw Kennedy nor Doleman as HOF'ers.  This is like Andre Dawson getting into the Baseball HOF.

Parcels omission is a crock of crap.   Not even a final 5 spot.  Really?

I wonder how Martin goes in, as a Patriot or a Jets????????/
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

Chris Doleman is #4 on the all time sack list - a no-brainer in my mind.

Doleman was a compiler.  I never saw him as being a dominant player.

Parcells was never really friendly to the press so the bitter old men that make up the HOF board are teaching him a lesson.  That's how it looks to me.

I find this to be a very well-reasoned explanation of the politics and pragmatics of the process. Whether or not it is totally accurate, it seems quite logical. Who knew that there are those among the voters who are reluctant to displace a player with a non-player? And can you imagine that DiBartolo might offset Tuna's opportunity? These voters may be well-informed but quite obviously they can't get out of their own way because bias creates it's own logic.

DiBartolo was forced out of the league in disgrace.   Hard to believe he was even in the same conversation as the Tuna.  As for the asinine idea that players should have priority, this is the NFL Hall of Fame not the NFL player hall of fame.

What about Bettis?  Wasn't he eligible or does he have one more year?  Very surprised about Chris Carter.  The HOF really snubs great receivers from the pass happy era.  It took forever for Art Monk to get in.

Cortez Kennedy?  He was pretty good but I never saw him as dominant and certainly not HoF material.  If Kennedy gets in, you gotta wonder how wide the flood gates have opened.

Parcells yes...Doleman no...

Never thought near as much of CD as his numbers would imply I should....

The HOF process is like the Oscars to me...in some cases perfectly logical...in others
huh?????

That's an essential point you make, Rich. It is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not the Football Players Hall of Fame. But what rules in the end is cognitive bias even though each one of the 44 voters is convinced of his/her objectivity. Of course, objectivity is an ideal more than a reality.

By the way, the Bay Area media is whining about DeBartolo, Tim Brown, and Charles Haley not making it.

Cheers!

Chris Doleman hit the double digit sack mark 8 times in his career including a 21 sack season.  He's also ended seasons with 92, 94, 101, and 113 tackles.  Not to mention 44 forced fumbles and 8 Ints.

In comparison Michael Strahan never approached 100 tackles in a season and has 24 FF and 4 career INTs.

Now nobody (especially nobody here) would doubt Strahan was a better DE than Doleman but if you look from a purely statistical standpoint he has got Strahan beat in every category except sacks (and he's not that far behind) and his numbers are more in line with L.T.  Again, I dont think he is as good as Strahan or LT, but the numbers speak for themselves.  I think he is a good and unbiased selection.

Well done, jimmyz. Those numbers make the case as far as I'm concerned. Doleman was a five-time All Pro/ eight times voted to the Pro Bowl which also says a lot.  Personally, I don't have a problem with the guys who made it. But I do have about some who didn't.

Cheers!

he has got Strahan beat in every category except sacks

What do you mean...other than Strahan's single season record I mean?  Strahan has 141.5 career sacks. Doleman has 150.5.
