Why does Parcells keep getting rejected by the Hall of Fame?
« on: February 04, 2012, 06:25:30 PM »
I mean, looking at the guys who made it in over Parcells this year, I see Cortez Kennedy and Chris Doleman as guys who were pretty good, but not Hall of Famers. Heck, I don't think Doleman was any better than Osi. And they get in over Parcells?

Coaches like Marv Levy and Tony Dungy are in the Hall of Fame. They're certainly worthy Hall of Famers, but Bill Parcells was better. What's the story?

Amazing.   Didn't even make the final cut?  :what:

The article ends with the question whether the history of the game could be written without including reference to a Parcells' contribution.   I don't think it could.   So why isn't he there - has his ebrasive nature been that much of a barrier, and if yes, how will that fit with Belchick.   Surely his wins won't be overshadowed by his personality, Spygate and his tenure at Cleveland?

If leading The Giants to 2 SB wins  isn't impressive enough, Parcells took 2 losing franchises and turned them into PO's teams.

Parcels was a Winner and should be in.

Parcells is also THE ONLY coach to take four teams to the playoffs. This whole thing stinks - period.

Because nobody is convinced he's done with football.

This is why  Harry Carson at one point asked to have his name taken off the list. First of all theres too many inducted each year which cheapens the football HOF in my mind and second theres no method or rhyme or reason why someone is inducted or not. Bill Parcells should easily rank amongst the top 10 coaches of all time. The hall of hame voting committee has been an EMBARRASSMENT for football for a long time and the shame continues. :boooo: :boooo: :boooo:

Because nobody is convinced he's done with football.

That's a cop-out. He's waited his time. People aren't voted in for their future contributions and actions. It's based on what they've done while in the game. And if that reason (not convinced that he's done) is taking place and no one is shutting that down, then they all need to be relieved of the duties.

We all have choices, he made choices. His choices reflect, judgement.

So let it be written, so let it be told.

Have you heard him speak lately? He sounds really... old. Like, recovering from something old.  I can't imagine him getting back into the coaching game, and I don't think the HOF voters could either. So I don't know what their problem is.

Tony Dungy is not in the HOF and won't be eligible for a few more years.

I agree that BP was the superior coach.

Parcels will get in eventually, but it sure is embarrassing that he hasn't made it yet. From what I hear and read, he sure pissed off a lot of sports writers along his career, and they are exacting their brand of justice.
They should be voting on numbers, record, on the field stuff, but Parcel's personality and ego rattled many a writer, so he will just have to wait for his day. Again, it will come.

BTW, I also agree that Doleman and Kennedy are not what "I" would call HOFers. Good players yes, but in the same category as some of the greats, just not the way I see it.
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.

ths list had some fine names on it, and just think next year the follwing are up to make the hall/

morten anderson leader of all time points, micheal strahan, and jonathan olden.

parcells will get in what when who knows.

'the hall of fame is so wrong in the way the pick players, on punters are in and one puyre place kicker.

special team players are always left off, this is a huge part of the game.

maybe lendeta and feagles will make it, but ray guy isn;t in.

what a mess that is.

This was more shameful than the Pro Bowl nonsense. How Tuna isn't in automatically just reeks of bitterness. Who cares about his demeanor? His snarly attitude? He has earned his spot undeniably. Look at his coaching tree, too, of course (Little Bill, TC, Crennel). Just pathetic.

BTW, Doleman I have no problem with in the Hall. Cortez Kennedy?

I agree that Parcells gets shafted because of personal reasons.  Sportswriters vote on the HOF, and Parcells has probably ruffled the feathers of many a media man.  What else makes sense?  I'm really surprised Cris Carter still hasn't gotten the call...same with Tim Brown.  Maybe the same reasons?

We might not remember Chris Doleman's career well, partially he spent the last 5 years away from the Vikings (in SF and ATL), but he's definitely worthy.

According to pro-football-reference.com, Chris Doleman was an 8 time pro bowler, and two time all pro.  Doleman finished his career with 150.5 sacks in 15 seasons (232 games).   He led the league once in sacks, in 1989 with 21 sacks.

Just for comparison's sake, Micheal Strahan was a 7 time pro bowler, and 4 time all pro.  Strahan had 141.5 sacks in 14 seasons (216 games).  He led the league in sacks twice, in 2001 and 2003.

Doleman also had about 250 more tackles in his career than Strahan (914 vs. 667).  I'm sure most of us think Strahan deserves to get in the HOF, and I'm sure he will.  Doleman's career was fairly similar...he definitely belongs.

To me, Cortez Kennedy was a big surprise.  I never thought he was a dominating player, but he did make the Pro Bowl 8 times in his 11 year career.
