Has TE just jumped up to #1 on the Needs List.
« on: February 06, 2012, 12:36:10 PM »
Certainly this may have been a position they would be considering anyway. However, with Beckum going down with ligament damage and Ballard also having a knee injury (although they originally said it was a sprain), I can't help but think this has suddenly become a priority going into the draft in a few months.
The Coach sees the glass as half full. The Media sees the glass as half empty. The Fans can't understand why we have a glass that is twice as big as it needs to be.

Ballard has a torn meniscus and should be ready for next season.  Still that doesn't mean TE isn't a priority area.   Although I have to think after the Pat's success with two TEs the demand for good TEs has increased significantly.   Odds are JR is going to have to look for another diamond in the coal pile.

I thought the same thing.  I don't think it's a round 1 need, but my guess is that it may be in first four rounds.  I don't think LB will be a round 1 pick just based on the track record.  I think we may look to OLine, RB or safety.

You know the funny thing about the safety position is that KP has done quite well and its becoming more and more clear that he plays better near the LoS.  Rolle is the better FS but his role is quite often as the Nickel corner.  I cant help but wonder how the Terrel Thomas injury impacted both these guys.

I think it broadened their experience and will make them better and more versatile players in the long run.

I think the Ballard injury will make us look for another TE a round earlier than we were anyway ..

John Carlson is solid Te that can block and catch and still not demand huge money as he is comng back of a torn labrum.

Could be a good value for a solid vet player.

Was a CB #1 on the Needs list last year?  Was a DT #2?

The Giants never have, and never will, make a position a priority, then look for the highest rated player to fill that position.  Instead,
they will pick the highest rated player on their Board at a position of need.

So if a TE is indeed their #1 need - they will not pick a TE who is lower rated than a LB, OL, S and RB.  I am assuming that those four positions are the highest rated "positons of need" that go into the equation of player grades.

I wasn't necessarily talking about the draft but rather pre-draft. Last year the Giants thought they would resign Boss. They also signed Ben Patrick and Jake Ballard as insurance. They kept Bear Pascoe on the roster as well. 2 of those 4 are gone. Two will be coming off injuries. And Bear is a warrior but it wouldn't take much to get an upgrade there. I think we will see two TEs brought into camp, either via draft or (more likely) free agency. Maybe 3 if the rehab for Ballard or Beckum starts to slip.

TE is a need but no more of a need as OL and RB are, IMO.

TE is a need but I'd rather have a stud LB that can cover these TEs and go with Ballard and a ham and egger FA solution.

Beckum was showing signs of life at the end of the season but this is probably it for him.

Finley is a free agent and only 24. The pack will probably franchise him but if not I would love to take a shot

I wouldn't be surprised if the team doesn't even look at a LBer in this draft, we have a stable of young LBers who are coming along and maybe just need a summer camp and some OTAs to be very good. What I do think will happen is that we go for a TE early in the draft, maybe not in round 1 but still early, probably after we address the O line..
