If you thought this years schedule was hard, next years is worse. Of course we know not how these teams will be doing when we play them, but as of now, we might have the hardest schedule in the league.

What would you expect for the Super Bowl Champs. To be the best, we have to beat the best

Home
Deadskins
Cowpukes
Iggles
Saints
Bucs
Browns
Steelers
Packers

Away
Foreskins
Cowpukes
Iggles
Falcons
Panthers
Bengals
Ravens
And then the 49ers

GULP

I can definitely see the Giants/Packers to open the season on thursday nite. And be prepared for as many national games as they can fit us into. All you ticket holders be prepared for a lot of night games

So it's the AFC North, NFC South, Packers, and 9ers. Should be a good test. We had a similar schedule coming off our previous championship and finished 12-4, even with the Plax fiasco. Hopefully nothing remotely close to that devastates our season.

Lenn there is a limit to the number of prime time games any team can play. I believe it is 5 or 6. The Giants have been pushing this limit for the last several years. Assuming a 50/50 split of 6 prime time games that makes 3 at home which is how many they had last year.

Good news for those of us who don't live in the NY/NJ area and who won't pay the outrageous Sunday Ticket fee.

I'm not sure, but won't Fox fight for that game (Packers/Giants) as a Sunday clash? The Saints will be prime time, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if its the Niners to start the year.

I think it WILL be the Packers @ home because that's a match between the last two SB Champs.  But, I'd prefer it be @ 49ers becaue it gets the longest road trip out of the way fast & gives the team over a week to get over the time lag.

Wait a minute...I'm off here. The Niners on the road? My bad. I doubt the NFL will deny the home fans a celebration moment. Packers seems logical except that will a be a huge game for FOX and I believe the networks have a first refusal right on certain games. If not the Pack, I don't know. The Iggles? Skins like 4 years ago? Interesting. That Packers game will be fought over, for sure.

I'd rather the 49ers as well.  I think it will be a better game, a rematch of the NFC Championship game, with both teams healthy and ready to go.  the 49ers want revenge and the Giants want to defend the claims that they did not win, but the 49ers lost the game.  But the Packers would be cool too.

I believe they will always give the SB Champs the right to open at home.

Plus this has nothing to do with the flex, so FOX doesn't have a say in the matter. Same as any SNF game, it is determined in April who plays when and where, and FOX and CBS have no say in the matter at all.

Giants/49ers would be nice, but we will open at home, so Giants Packers seem very logical, and it WILL draw big time ratings. Isn't that what's it's all about. ???????

Getting the Saints at home, instead of in the dome, is a huge benefit.

I don't believe this is true I am under the impression the both networks can protected certain games. The selections and rules have never been announced but it was claimed the home GB game this year was protected and thus not eligible for the flex.

I've read where Fox and CBS can protect games from week 11-16 from being flexed. As far as NBC goes, you would think automatically they would want the Packers/Giants for opening night, which is also an obvious FOX potential rating juggernaut on a Sunday, too. I wouldn't mind the league sending the Giants to SF on opening night, but the league wants to reward the Super Bowl Champions, not have them booed and beer showered from the thugs in Candlestick. Ouch  :hurt:

In the first several years the Thursday game was just between 2 random teams.

However, in 04 the season after the Pats won their second title, it has been as Lenn stated.   The super bowl champ gets the home field on thursday night and plays a high caliber team from the year (sometimes a Super bowl rematch, or a conference rematch and somtimes just some team of no consequence).

The  Packers would seem like the most likely.

I am sure of this. The schedule comes out sometime in April and all games are determined then. Yes, last years GB game came out in the time of the season where games started to be flexed, so FOX or CBS have the right to protect one game each week. Up until that point the schedule is the schedule and no network can change any game. So in April, whatever games are lined up for SNF and MNF are there until the flex period starts. FOX can want that game all it wants, but if the people who make up the schedule decide they want that game as the opener on Thursday nite, or on SNF, that's where it will be.
