Wilfork admits Boothe didn't hold
« on: February 08, 2012, 09:51:57 PM »
Watching Sound FX on NFL network, incredible new angle on the game, like watching it again for the first time.  One of the refs questions the hold call, then asks Wilfork who says it was a bad call.

I was impressed very much with that play by Boothe. Thought right off, the holding call was baloney. I thought it was a helluva block Mano a Mano with one of the elite interior DL in the NFL. Boothe showed plenty on that play.

As the Aussie's say "Good on Wilfork".

Boothe has earned a starting interior spot. Petrus is a solid back up. Its Baas I'm still a little unsure of.

Another interesting item to note, which maybe only I find interesting, is that Eli apparently turned down the wire, while Brady accepted.  It does recall the famous Parcellsian axiom, "Let Not Ye Be a Celebrity QB".

Don't tell "The Ref" who is predictably defending the holding call as correct.  He probably will just say that Willfork doesn't know what holding is.

It certainly didn't look like a hold from my vantage point either. That call killed a drive that probably would have produced points for us and kept the Pats from scoring at the end of the half.

A big part in that call was the way in which Wilfork twisted when he fell which sold it to the official.

Definitely a veteran move.  But the supposed best officials for the season should not be fooled by that.  And the guy who called it (the umpire?) as much as admitted he didn't see the hold but based his call on secondary observation of the play.  The ref suspected the truth but the umpire maintained his take and so the penalty was called.

Funny how all the talking heads put it all on Walker for his drop, but there was this bogus hold and a drop of a similar tough catch by Mario, on that drive, which could have given the Giants a 16-3 lead and completely demoralized the Patriots and led to a blow-out.  But the Giants were just lucky because Welker dropped that pass.  Which, BTW, wasn't thrown nearly as perfectly as Manning's pass to Manningham.

I enjoyed that look...

You could tell the head ref did not think it was a hold but the guy who called it was
defending his flag....then VW buried him...kinda funny (only after result of course)...

Glad Eli turned it down....seemed to me like Brady would periodically remember he had it
on and then would overreact.......that may be harsh but it was weird...they scored and he was
normal and then suddenly a few seconds later he'd start screaming....

I can watch that stuff all day

I especially liked hearing Belichick tell his defense (on our last drive), "Make him throw to Manningham and Pascoe!" Didn't work out very well for ya, huh Lil Bill?  :ok:

So the Pats got lucky was well.   Luck often has a tendency to balance itself out.

"The Ref" buries himself deeper:

http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/3931

"Obviously, you are entitled to your opinion but I disagree. I felt that Boothe pulled the Patriots defensive lineman to the ground when he grabbed the back of his shirt after holding him while the play was underway.

As the hold, was at the point of attack as the runner went past and the Patriots DL ended up on the ground, I felt it was an easy call."

"As for the “wink,” I think you are seeing things. The league office had absolutely no problem with any of the calls (and non-calls) in the game. You appear to spend much of your time trying to find situations where the officials “missed” the call. Your opinion is not shared by those who were responsible for assessing the performance of the officials in this game."

I thought the Sound FX show was awesome....definitely want more.  No question the hold was bogus....those calls happen all of the time and thank goodness we won.  I agree with the Belichick talk to his defense......really put a light on how Eli had to go to that throw...very cool

As always GO GIANTS!!!!

First time I have been able to post.....what a great victory....life is good.

The other highlights for me was just how loose Victor Cruz seemed during the game.  Also, the moment when Boley told the D that Gronk was simply a decoy.
