Post Game Embrace
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:58:15 AM »
For all of the guff Bellichick (and some deservedly so) gets for being stoic, a poor sport...etc during the post game handshake.

I have to say that I was really moved by the affection that he showed the Colonel after the Superbowl. I know they have a history and a great mutual respect for one another....but I didn't expect such an emotional exchange immediately after the such a tough loss for Bill.

It really shows the LOVE and RESPECT these two men have for one another. I was moved and impressed.

I think it reflected the fact that Tom Coughlin is one of the few people on the planet who could understand what Belichik was going through, at that level. Thus, ironically, the SB victor was really the only person on the field who could offer BB any sort of consolation at that moment.

No psychology here. This was sign of mutual respect and admiration between 2 old friends.

Respect and admiration don't explain the degree of emotion Belichik displayed at the end of the game, or the way he fell into TC's arms and held him tightly. Even TC said afterword that the moment was moving and that he was at a loss for words.

I thought that was awesome.

Me too.

I would have loved to have heard the exchange.

One of my first thoughts as I was watching them was, Tom really deserves this type of respect...and to get it on that stage from someone as accomplished as Bill was very appropriate, IMO.

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was about THIS embrace:

 =)) =)) =))

He was even on the float in the parade with Jacobs and Hynoski:

 :Giants:  ALL HAIL THE NEW YORK GIANTS!!!  :Giants:

But friendship does.

Well, I balance it against the way Bill left the field in '08, before the Giants took a knee and allowed the clock to run out.

Bill was already gone to the locker room when the clock struck 00:00, and nowhere to be found for a respectful handshake, as I recall.

My thoughts exactly! He was roundly criticized for that move and probably didn't want to hear about it again.

+ 1.

I saw this as a "do-over" for 2008. BB was mad about losing the game and inadvertently dissed TC as a result. He wouldn't do that again.

I would have loved to have heard the exchange.

Agreed, Andrew.

The only think I could pick up - rewound it more than a few times on the DVR, I was enjoying it so much - was TC saying, "So are you. So are you."

Maybe I'm in the minority but I like Belichick and I am very grateful for the role he had in half of the Giants Super Bowl titles.  Would have rather this Super Bowl win been against the Ravens than Belichick's Pats.

I'm on board with this.
