"The immortal Ray Bradbury, Eric Frank Russell, David Weber, David Drake, Frank Herbert, Keith Laumer, Robert Heinlein, the good Doctor Asimov, Murray Leinster, Anne McAffrey, Ursula K Leguin, MIchael Moorcock, Dean Koontz, Fred Pohl, Gordon Dickson, Larry Niven, James P Hogan,Lois Bujold, Jerry Pournelle, Andre Norton, John Ringo, Fred Saberhagen, Sir Arthur C. Clarke are a few that come to mind. My wife wants me to empty my library, as I have kept every book worth rereading since I was oh five. Yes, there is a copy of 'Have spacesuit will travel', as well as 1st revised edition Lord of the Rings trilogy..."

Edit to add: Jim Baen has a free library at his website, get David Weber's first two books about Honr Harrington" on Basilisk Station" and "Honor of the Queen" or maybe "A Short Victorius War" www.baenbooks.com

Honor Harrington series by David Weber-see mention above -military science fiction with a full human side, good science, too, for a change, get the first two books free and see if you like them.

Oh, duels are legal in the 'honorverse'

Another freebie from Baen: James P Hogan, ex-NASA scientist, get "Inherit The Stars" first book of three, but book stands by itself very well! Hogan has the science in fiction, which I like as I am science-bent!

The Dark Tower... Stephen King's opus.  7 book series that also has tie ins to almost every single book he has written.  His fans are oft called "Tower junkies"... an addictive series.  I'm currently reading the Song of Fire and Ice saga myself and even though it's normally not a genre I'm into it's been absolutely fantastic.

I'm also a big big fan of John Wyndham.  Many of his books are barely above the novella length, so they're quick satisfying reads :)  The Chrysalids is one of my favourite books of all time, right up there with Watership Down, Brave New World, and Shake Hands with the Devil (autobiography of Romeo Dallaire.. I met him after one of his speaking tours, a great man who was caught in that horrible situation in Rwanda)
