Rich But at that particular point the Grey was winning. Battle strategies have changed so much since the Civil War. Their plans of battle then, are so archaic. Can you imagine a battle where two sides just go out into the open, stand side by and shoot at each other?? The carnage was so immense, but that was how it was done in that time.And again, Pickett's Charge would have worked had certain other factors gone the way of the Grey.But that Charge did basically end any chance the south had of winning the war. Lee's Army was basically decimated and he never fully recovered the momentum he had going into Gettysburg.
