1964 -- The Start of the Giants' Dark Ages

This is a great piece from Sports Illustrated which will give the reader a great insight in hindsight as to what happened after such a great run of teams from 1956-1963.

Although very young, I lived through those years and it actually strengthens your resolve and character as a TRUE fan of a team.

Enjoy...............

That was a good read

THANKS, Giant Obs!  But, it brings b ack VERY painful memories.  Allie destyroyed the Giants.  He had the absolute worst season I can remember; 1966!  UGH!!!! ~X(  I don't want to relive those seasons.

When Howell retired in 1960, Allie got the top job, although he was Owner Wellington Mara's second choice.

"I wanted the head job," he said. "I knew I was ready. Wellington called me in and said that he had promised Vince Lombardi the job if he were free to take it. If he couldn't take it, I was the only other man they would consider."

Wow. Must have been strange for Wellington to go through this type of scenario twice (losing an all-time great coach who was an assistant just shortly before you have an opening). First with Lombardi, then again with Belichick.

I'm not so sure not having Beiicheck was a bad thing.  If you remember, he was a total flop with the Browns & went back to being the Tuna's DC with the Jets.
