I like that Jim Cordle came over and stood over TC's shoulder.....

In the Detroit - Niners game last night, there was about 1:30 left in the game when Detroit tried their (unsuccessful) onside kick.

The 49'ers had to run 3 plays from the "victory" formation to run out the clock.

The Lions Defense did NOT attack the offense on any of those 3 plays.  Even though they were behind by one score.  With a heck of a lot more than 6 seconds left in the game.

This is the same defense that led the league in personal foul penalties a year ago.  The same defense that might have set a record this off-season for arrests by one defensive unit.  Needless to say, this isn't a unit full of choirboys.  Not to mention they are coached by a guy who obviously would like nothing better than to wipe the smug look of Jim Harbaugh's face.  But given all that, they knew better.

They probably know that the probability of injuring someone (on either side of the ball) with those type of tactics are much higher than actually recovering the football.  They also probably know that, should they do something like that, it might come back to haunt them.

I hope Schiano was watching that last night.

I've never ever seen the victory formation lead to a turnover. They (Bucs) lost the game. That was sour grapes. What if Eli got his knee wrecked there? That's okay? Oh, that's football. Bush league stuff. Golic was such an idiot today saying the Giants were at fault. I wish he would take his steaming pile of Philly crap elsewhere. Bayless too. 99 out of 100 games nothing happens and they walk off. This is the first time for me to see such a jerk move.

Of course, you get some macho defensive dudes applauding it. The Giants will remember, you bet. Really dumb ass thing for Schiano to do. Just glad nobody got hurt.

I personally feel what Schiano did was bush league and should come back to haunt him someday.  But, for what it's worth to anyone, this morning on Mike and Mike, they asked Ditka about the play and he said he has no problem with it.  According to him, you play the full sixty minutes and he thought Coughlin was wrong in this instance.  I disagree, but hey, there are those who share that opinion.

And I call BS on Ditka unless he can show us some games in which he did the same thing.

I like Ditka but its starting to look like he played too many games without a helmet..

By taking a knee, you're telling the other side that you are conceding the play and to stop.  It's not any different than a player who takes a knee in the end zone on a kickoff return or a fair catch.  I understand Schiano's point of playing to the end but when the opposing side concedes, the right thing to do is acknowledge it.  Goodell should fine him for it.

Schiano  based on the rather obvious insanity involved with going after Eli when the game was effectively over, you just have to wonder if there are not other forms of his twisted logic being espoused?   The fact this guy actually tried to defend his action should make everyone very aware this fellow has determined his "rules" are the ones in play!

With all of the guys defending Schiano's actions I have a question.  If, as some claim, this is not a problem, why hasn't espn or the nfln gone back and found a bunch of games where the same thing happened?  Maybe because they do not exist?

Actually, there's no rule that says he can't do it.  The League already said what he did was leagal & tghere'd be no action against him.  It IS possible that their movement resulting in Eli's being hi by his own OL could've jarred to ball loose from Eli.  Then they pick it up & run it into the EZ for the tying score.  PERFECTLY LEGAL!  But, I still think what he did stinks! :boooo:

I guess we never knew what Schiano is really like ... but I guess we now know.  He is clearly a member of the Jim Harbaugh Idiot's Club.  No class, no sense of fair play, etc.  The guy is a jerk.

This IS exactly the point. How would Schiano like it if the Giants, with the game already won, did one of those Marino things, faked a kneel down and threw a TD pass. hey, as he said, they play a full 60 minutes of football./ How would something like that go over in his teams locker room?.

I'll bet if he has the privilege of winning any games this year, and his QB takes a knee, I hope
EVERY team they play goes full out to knock his players all over the field. See how they like it.

Maybe what has been lost here is one word. SPORTSMANSHIP.  The Giants won, they were just running the remaining time off the clock. What Schiano did was the most classless thing imaginable at that time, and for sure, this will come back to bite him hard and not just from the Giants. Every team out there will take shots at his guys now.
I hate to include the word NASTY, but that is part of being a winning football team.
