Cap Hit
2017- 7.5mm
2018- 17.5mm
2019- 19.5mm
2020- 17.5mm  Dead Cap 5.0mm

The Giants are signed on with JPP for the next 3 years (the dead cap space would be prohibitive in those years).  Even year 4 would result in $5 million in dead cap money, but it would be offset by $12.5 in cap savings.   Year 4 is a little better than expected.

Without Fluker, J.Johnson and Geno Smith's salaries the Giant's cap is now:

8.355mm- all
9.043mm- Top 51 + Draft Pool

Figure 3.0mm for Fluker, 540K for Johnson and 1-1.5mm for Smith. So about 5.0mm off of the numbers I posted so the Giant's available Cap at this point is about:

3.355mm- all
4.043mm- Top 51 + Draft Pool

I'm getting a Phil Simms kind of feeling about Eli in the next year or two. I think this will be a key season in the Organization's thinking about his future with the team in terms of his contract. They can cut him in 2018 and although the Dead Hit is 12.4mm they would save 9.8mm. In 2019 they would save 17.0mm by cutting him and a dead cap of 6.2mm.

I believe this is a put up year for Eli Manning and I would not be surprised if they draft a QB in the first round in April if their guy was there. I doubt Geno is the guy.

this coming year could be a pivotal one for Eli, if his performance stays the same or diminishes then he won't be worth his contract and I think the team will look to move on from him to make plans for the future and save money.

I think Eli is going to surprise everyone with his longevity, it is very possible he remains the Giants starter until he is 42.

Retires as the NFL all-time passing yards leader.

Just remember the team has another $3 million in cap space in the form of JT Thomas.  So the team could sign a LB or DT and cut him to free up the money

I thought he would have been cut a week ago. Cutting him now would be a pretty crappy thing to do to him.

I've been thinking that myself a lot lately. While I've been critical of Eli since my arrival on BBH, the longer this goes on, the more it seems like a possibility. Especially after last year.

Those are scary looking numbers for him in 2018-2020.

He may not be, but other than failing to duck a punch he never did much wrong with the Jets. He is a very capable backup and I still think he can start in this league. His receivers with the Jets his first season were downright awful. Then they brought in Decker and while Smith was better the team's record was worse. I would love to have seen what he could have done in 2015 with Marshall and Decker to throw to. Instead, he had to nurse back to health from his locker room delivered broken jaw. By that time, Fitzpatrick was reaping the benefits of the improved WR corps and Smith was firmly planted on the bench.
Go Giants!
