Reese says he'll move up in draft if can

This must mean they have a very specific target or two in mind.
Wonder who it is.

IMO, that is good news.

This would be the year for it, IMO, considering that the Giants only have a few positions where a rookie could step right in and contribute immediately.

Hallelujah!!!

Bob

PS. I suppose it could happen.

Being that the Giants normally stand pat....looks like a smoke screen to me.

state: Are you saying they might pretend to be interested in trading up in order to cajole other teams to trade up, so that a player might fall to them at pick 23?  Bob

Guys I haven't had a chance to see a transcript but all the reports I heard from Jerry's presser, the indication was the usual boiler plate about "trading if the opportunity presents itself"   In fact one could fairly say that PFT mischaracterized their source material which when you follow through was this:

Jerry Reese says "if we have an opportunity to trade in the first round we'll do that."

Notice he didn't say up

In fact this seems to be more the correct quote

New York Giants  @Giants

"If there's somebody out there that we love and we can move up, we'll explore those options." - Jerry Reese

"THE 2007 and 2011 GIANTS WERE NEVER PERFECT, NOR MEANT TO BE.  THEY WERE FIGHTERS, SCRAPPERS, NOW THEY CAN BE CALLED SOMETHING ELSE....WORLD CHAMPIONS!"

Did he also say that water is wet? Usual pre-draft stuff from Reese. Said many words, few that have any bearing on what his intentions are

Terrible article.  The tweet says trade, not necessarily trade up.  And the author seems to think we are fine on the OL because he highlights DL and RB as our priority needs.

Fits right into the Florio style.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist

A quote from here:  http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2017/04/giants_gm_jerry_reese_trade_up_first_round.html

"If we have an opportunity to trade in the first round, we'll do that," Reese said. "Right now, we'll just kind of let the board fall like it does. If we feel like we want to move up and get somebody, we'll move."

Then came the caveat.

"It costs to move up, though," Reese added. "If you're going to move up, you're going to give away a lot of draft picks to move up, even if you just move up a couple of spots. We like taking our picks."

Jaime:

Did you read Bob in PA's response to the smokescreen claim?  I would like to know what would be the purpose of announcing to everyone that you would move up if necessary.

Exactly. An overstatement of an article sensationalizing.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."
~ Coach Tom Coughlin

Ted: The idea that the Giants might be trying to coerce other teams to trade ahead of them is definitely fiscally responsible. LOL

The article about Coughlin removing the ping-pong tables in Jacksonville was more interesting.
Go Giants!

Just a week and few days and the silly season will be over and with it the only thing about it that's predictable.

Cheers!
