Munson makes the team, don't disagree, but did not see that one coming.

Nice list Rich. I dont see enough talent to go 6 deep at corner though  Not that Behre has impressed, but I haven't watched Duke st safety yet.

Yeah, he's been a pleasant surprise

I see it the same way.  That's why I think the 6th CB is on another team's roster

I just don't see Wheeler making it to the PS.  I think he makes the team.  Not sure about Duke tho.  I still think the next game will tell us more about the 53.

Cid,

Unless he shows marked improvement over his performance in game one, I don't see teams lining up to claim him

Nice list but I need to see more of Berhe/Duke and Wynn/Taylor before I'd lock them down.

I can't see how Wynn doesnt make it, either over Taylor or we would carry 5 LBs... I think they would go with 9 OLs, specially if a good one is released by another team. If so it'll probably be at the expense of Lacosse.

I think the offense is pretty much spot on. But I have doubts about Ihenacho and Blake. Duke is just mediocre and Blake can't cover third string recovers. And as for his value in special teams?

Deayon is more valuable as a backup slot CB than Blake for anything.

I hope that the NFL decides to expand rosters to 55 or so in future years.  I find it very hard to get to 53 players:

QB: (3) - I know the Giants gambled with 2 the past couple years, but a starter, a true backup, and a developmental QB would be ideal
RB: (5) - maybe can go with 4, but ideally you have 2 main RB's, a FB, a developmental RB, and a third down RB
TE: (3) - if you have a FB, you really only need 3 TE's.  Giants may keep 4 and have no FB
WR: (6) - in the wide open offenses of today, really hard to only carry 5 WRs
OL: (9) - I don't know how teams go less than 9.  At minimum you need a backup swing tackle, interior OL, and C.  Ideally, you want to keep a 9th developmental prospect

DE: (5) - might be able to get away with 4, but it's hard to see a DL having less than 9 overall
DT: (4) - even if you have DE's playing DT in NASCAR packages, hard to see less than 4
LB: (6) - might be able to get away with 5 in the age of passing offenses, but that is still pretty lean
CB: (6) - maybe 5, but most teams are playing 3 almost constantly... hard to see less than 6
S: (4) - hard to see less than 4 under any circumstances
Specialists: (3) - enough said, unless your LS can be a viable backup at another position... but a backup you prefer to not play

Offense: 26
Defense: 25
Special: 3

TOTAL: 54 - I have some cushion in spots to get to 53, but I would either expand to 55 or create more IR spots for players (maybe a IR 4 week, IR 8 week, etc).... this is a hard game with a lot of injuries.  No reason not to expand by a couple spots.  The owners are making so much money, so two extra spots would cost them like $2M at most a year.  Or, get rid of special teams and then you don't need as many of the backup guys (which will never happen anyway).

If Ellison is as good or better lead blocking than either of the FBs, there's no need to carry a pure FB.

Unless someone goes on IR I don't know how they keep Romeo and Wynn.   Unless they think Moss can be snuck on the PS.   I don't think there are 9 O-linemen that have earned a spot to date.   With the league wide shortage of good offensive linemen, I am doubtful a good one will be cut/waived.

Berhe looked terrible on Friday night and needs to do more to earn a spot, in my opinion.    Blake sort of wins by default as DD is not big enough to play in this league.

I think TE LaCossee and FB Smith are in a close battle for a roster spot

When you consider 46 only suit up on game day, 47-53 are sort of your protected practice squad and the rest are you regular practice squad.

Agreed, that's why I believe Smith needs to step up his blocking game if he wants to make the roster.
