On Sirius this morning Peter King told a story relayed to him by David Tyree.  They have been attending several functions together this off-season.  When King asked about Tyree's bad practice the day before the Super bowl, Tyree told him he had dropped about three or four passes, every one that had been thrown at him in practice.  Eli threw to him one more time so he could catch one and so that Tyree would not go off the field in a funk and when Tyree  caught it, the entire defense gave him a standing ovation.

That night, Tyree went up to Eli in the hotel and told him "I'll be there for you tomorrow"   Eli gave Tyree a bear hug and said I am coming your way tomorrow.

King then says Eli went to Tyree three times on the final winning drive of the game.  Knowing how bad a practice Tyree had and knowing that Tyree would not have been in the game half as much had Plax been healthy.  The point being that Eli's teammates (and Peter King) love him because Eli  looks at a players whole body of work and doesn't  let a bad practice or play affect his judgment.

Another nice story about Plax-  before the game Pat Hanlon has to turn in the injury list to the league officials and no one could find Plax on the practice field---instead of practice, Plax, for a full hour before the game, was praying at his locker for the strength to even play the game.

Awesome Tyree story, thanks for sharing that one.  I still am not over that super bowl and that play and what Tyree did for this team.

I remember last year mentioning how much the Giants players respected Eli during the rough stretch after a friend had a conversation with Fred Robbins.  I was pretty much laughed at by the BBWC crew, but it's absolutely true.  He is a great leader.

There was a conversation between Eli and his brother shortly after the game where Peyton asked Eli about the throw and catch to Tyree, and Peyton said something along the lines of, "I'm surprised you threw it." Eli replied, "I told you he's a gamer."

Grizz, one of my closest friends lived in the same complex in north jersey as alot of the Giants players(and some Mets players).  He lived on the same floor as Fred Robbins about 3 or 4 doors down.  He became somewhat friendly with him, where they would talk every once in a while.  My buddy is a Cowboys fan(I figured everyone has a fault or two).  He was just bs'ing with Fred Robbins one day about the Giants and Eli and it was late in the season when Eli was struggling.  Fred said that all the guys believed in Eli and all the guys knew that he was a good leader and trusted him.  My friend said FR sounded very sincere.

He then gave my buddy 3 Giants tickets with all the families(I sat next to Will Allen's family and had to keep my mouth shut).  After the game he got us back in the lockerroom area where I met a bunch of Giants players such as Tiki, Shockey, Amani, Burress, Fred Robbins and a few others.  Was a really cool experience.

You know what, it was the game against the Eagles late in the season when McNabb was hurt, maybe 2005.
