Michael was marvelous but he was never the disruptive intimidating force that LT was.

One of the most amazing things.........two (three?) years ago he comes to camp and announces that he's playing at some 20 lbs. lighter.   "Can't be done", I said,  "he's finally finished".    I can't think of another player who was successful by breaking sacrosanct notions of the game.  Seems to me it's always about building up not down.

The famous front four of Minnosota of many years ago could never handle the brute running that Oakland and Kansas City showed them in the superbowl.  Where large lineman (weighing 265 back then) simply overpowered Marshall and Page at about 230 and 240.   Now Michael gives away fifty sixty and sometimes damn near up to ninty pounds and still after sixteen years can play the run.

Almost unaccountable that and something I doubt that we'll ever see again.   And I realize, as I write this, that I simply won't enjoy watching them as much if he's gone.

MS is an all-time great. He obviously can still cut the mustard. He will be missed. The Giants are a better team with him. With Shockey. There is no dispute, no doubt. I am sure Reese, Mara, TC all want him back. I want him back, you want him back, all Giant fans want him to return. But, at what cost? Hopefully, they can do some CAP voodoo and make it work. Find some way in which they are able to leave room so they can operate and continue to add to the overall strength of the team. That is my concern.

Means he's going to be back.   And for that I'm glad.   With him and Shockey we have to be the favorite (in spite of a brutal schedule) to win the whole enchilada.

On the other hand, my happiness is temepered.  He's making four and signed to a contract, they offer him six and he's gonna push for eight.  And yes, I know that's the way of the world, but I don't have to like it ,do I?

for the last bunch of years Strahan has been a money hound .

Let's look at this from a CAP perspective. If he is entering the final year of his contract and if it his final year, how does it effect the team? The way I understand it is a signing bonus is pro-rated over the term of the contract. Hence, a $4 million bonus over 1 year still is an additional $4 million to his CAP number, which would equal $8 million. My question is how much under the limit are the Giants? Do they make it more than a 1 year deal? Does it leave them room for adding talent(FA cuts) before the season? I love the talent on the team, but...? If necessay, who will they cut to accomodate him?

Sam, I agree, MS is one of the all-time Giant greats, but when is enough, enough? When does it hinder a team's ability to operate more efficiently? Are we going to have go through this again next year? I understand it is a business and he is going to try to get the best deal possible, and I admit I hate this part of professional sports, but it does get old. And like the media Shockey soap opera I can't wait till the climax and hope not to see the re-run.
I don't think it makes much difference whether we give him a multi year contract or not, he'll still be looking for more money next year based on his behavior lately...at what point does the team draw the line, and what will the impact be for future contracts because of this Strahan fiasco, whats the point of negotiating at all if contracts aren't going to be honored ...

You can pay him a big bonus on top of his $4M, write a contract over 2 or 3 years, so the amortized bonus won't be so hard to swallow this year.  Next year the cap will rise again so when he retires next year it will be easier to write-off the dead bonus money.

As for Strahan's leadership, especially with 2 minutes left in SB42, you know what I think.  Like Spider said, "Pay the man."

"17-14 fellas.  One touchdown and we are world champions.  Believe it and it will happen!  17-14 is the final.  Let's go!"  Michael Strahan, with 2:39 remaining in SB42.
