Quote from: AZGiantFan on Today at 03:54:47 PMTo listen to the talk around here, we are already going into the draft QB hungry.  I hope Schoen doesn't see it that way.

Never shop hungry

Breaking down the Giants' pre-draft visitors into four tiers (with local visits included):

• Second-round targets/first-round prospects who could slide: QB Bo Nix, OL Jordan Morgan, OG Cooper Beebe, DL Johnny Newton, Edge Chop Robinson, CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB Max Melton, S Jaden Hicks.

• Mid-round targets: QB Spencer Rattler, RB. Trey Benson, RB Audric Estime, TE Ben Sinnott, TE Theo Johnson, OT Patrick Paul, DT Maason Smith, Edge Adisa Isaac, Edge Mo Kamara, CB Andru Phillips.

• Late-round fliers/potential UDFAs that they used the visit to start recruiting: WR Tejhaun Palmer, OT Giovanni Manu, DT Khristian Boyd, DE Pheldarius Payne, LB Tyrice Knight, CB Chigozie Anusiem.

Quote from: T200 on Today at 02:55:14 PMMaybe this is why he's undecided...

That was quick.  It's funny, but when the Giants traded for Waller, I wondered how that would impact their recent marriage.  Her job was still in Los Vegas, and his job was on the other side of the country, which seemed like a significant challenge for the newlyweds.

Looks like whatever the league finds, it will not impact this draft

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 11:55:04 AMMighty, I back and forth with Ceri for months in the run up to the draft so I guess a bit of my brain seeps into his around the edges. At this point my Board is specific only to players I would take (so fit as well as grade) but by position and within position in order here are my first rounders:

QB: Williams*, Maye*, McCarthy, Daniels
RB: N/A
TE: Bowers
WR: Harrison Jr*, Odunze*, Nabers, Thomas Jr
OT: Alt, Fuaga, Latham, Fashanu, Fautanu
IOL: Barton
ED: Verse
DE/DT: Murphy
LB: N/A
S/NCB: N/A
CB: Mitchell, Arnold

19 in total

Of the above I only have 4 with potential gold-jacket/multiple all-pro grades as indicated by *

If I have any medical or character Qs I exclude them from * status but keep in R1 if I deem them 'minor'

4 bigger medical Qs not included above but grade high enough for me if cleared to have a R1 grade: Latu, Newton, DeJean, McKinstry

Just my view. My lack of love for the D guys shines through with some notable omissions.

Interesting list, there was nothing there I would say I disagree with.  Thanks for sharing

Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 11:29:19 AMHow much time does Schoen thinks he has left in his Giants tenure?  If less he may swing for the fences this year and gamble on a QB.

This reminds me of the Brandon Beane quote about moving up to draft Josh Allen:

"I mean, we got criticized a little bit for how much we gave up for Josh. And I'm like, 'Well, if he doesn't work out, I'm not going to be here anyway. And if he does work out, nobody's gonna give a s–t,'" said Beane

Quote from: madbadger on Today at 11:20:05 AMAt the end of the regular season I wanted them to draft a quarterback. At that point in time not many were predicting as many as four quarterbacks to go in the first five picks and we would likely have the chance to draft Daniels or McCarthy at six. Now I hope they don't. Don't get me wrong we desperately need an upgrade but with the current supporting cast I don't think it's wise to package a bunch of picks to move up and get the guy we want. We still have too many holes on offense and would likely be setting that guy up for failure.

At this point I'd be more interested in dropping from six to the 9-13 range. That would give us the chance to draft a guy like Thomas out of LSU and give us another first round pick to move up in next years draft to get Jones replacement. I know some will say that next years qb class will be weak, and to some degree it will, but there will be at least two or three qb prospects with a high first round grade. Very few people had Jayden Daniel's blowing up and going as high as second or third overall at this point last year. Every year someone blows up. There are several college quarterbacks this year that had really nice seasons who could develop into that can't miss guy. Sanders, Ewers and Cam Ward come to mind. We're stuck with Jones for this year. Finish rebuilding the line and the skill position players and then go big for a qb next year.

One thing I remember from Schoen's presser is his comment about the team not being a player or two away.  I think that may indicate that Schoen shares your view.

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 10:51:41 AMIt is an interesting debate but I think they have overstated to get maximum attention/coverage and it is not necessarily reflective of current GM sentiment.

I have listened to pre-draft interviews with Wolf and Ossenfort in the last week or so (looking for clues with them at 3,4) as well as Schoen. All three indicated they had at least a "normal" (assume 20 or so) set of first round grades (Schoen actually leant towards deep in my interpretation of his words).

They all seemed to feel the draft was relatively deep day 2. They all noted NIL had thinned options out but Schoen spelt out that day 3 depth depended on position with some deep right until the end and others much thinner. How day 3 looks depends on what you need and your willingness to draft BPA rather than reaching for need.

In the last couple of days both the Colts (7 picks) and Packers (11) GMs have indicated they'd be open to trading back for "more bullets". Not something you would expect if quality was seen as desperately thin.

Without a doubt NIL is having an impact. FWIW I have more first round grades than I did last year driven by QB, OL and WR where I have a combined 14 vs 7 last year. The D is definitely thinner at the top. I had 5 CB rated as high or higher last year than my favourite guy this year (Mitchell) and my top Edge this year would have been ED4 last year. So for me it is not a D draft day one but D arguably offers better day 3 depth (with only RB having nice depth on O). Smart GMs will adjust accordingly.

Neil,

When are you going to share your grades with us?

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 11:04:07 AMI do not see NE trading back. They are in disarray with a spoilt fanbase increasingly listless. Kraft knows he needs a QB to generate some hype and create a reason for fans to spend.

The perceived hot QB market may be leading other teams to ask for potentially unrealistic packages to trade back (lots of rumours that it would take "historic" deals to shift AZ or LAC). Will they shift position on draft day? Is Minnesota or Denver desperate enough to massively overpay? Maybe.

Thankfully we will know soon!

I looked at New England's offensive lineup via PFF, and I posted the Athletic article on the team's infrastructure for a new QB.  I think the Pats are better prepared to draft and develop a QB than people think.  As the saying goes, you hope not to be drafting this high again, so if a quality QB prospect is there for you to draft...

I have to thing taking any two of the top 4, there will be a QB New England can see as their franchise QB moving forward.
