Quote from: spiderblue43 on Today at 10:52:18 AMBy the way. What happened to Bellinger after such a promising rookie season? He looked lead footed and sluggish. Remember..he Hulked himself out for camp last year and went pfft almost right away.

Hasn't been the same since the eye injury. Probably has problems with depth perception.

Quote from: expatriot on Today at 11:08:47 AMI don't think he will be there when the Giants draft, but I wouldn't be upset if they somehow got him.  Yeah yeah yeah he didn't throw a lot based on the Michigan offense BUT he was the best third down QB in the country and he has a strong arm, and he is used to pressure and COMING THROUGH.  All of it is academic because he will be gone before pick 6 and the Giants don't have the draft capital to go get him.

Quote from: Gmo11 on Today at 10:44:48 AMI'd prefer it!  I think that would be exactly the right thing to do!

I'd be pretty pumped to get either without having to make a trade.

I can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if JJ is the pick and Maye is also available.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 09:57:21 AMI would much rather take a risk and go for it than be on the meh train we've been on for 5 years.

I'm good with that. If anything it will make it interesting to see what effect it has on the narrative.

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 08:57:56 AMFair enough, my friend.  I think we're a lot of teams fail is drafting the wrong guy after hitting the reset button.  NYJ come to mind.  Otherwise, your good point is well taken.

Or sometimes the guy just can't stay healthy. 🤷

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 08:13:40 AMI believe this paradigm is somewhat outdated; a lot depends on the HC's credibly and past successes.  For example, if a HC wins CoY, or a SB, they'll be given more opportunities to press the QB reset button.  The rookie salary cap has also made it dramatically easier to move on from drafted QBs; it's no longer takes 5-years to recover from a poor QB draft decision.

For a few example, McVay will  hit the reset button very soon to replace Stafford (injury/age).  Does anyone believe his job is in jeopardy? It wasn't when he hit the reset button from Goff to Stafford.  It's likely he'll need to hit the reset button 3x in 6 years.  Mike Tomlin hit the reset button on Kenny Pickens after one year, and only "solved" the issue for one season...he'll have to address it again next year.  Is his job in jeopardy? Shanahan hit the QB reset button 3x, going from Garoppolo-to-Lance-to-Purdy; his job was never in jeopardy.

Of course there's going to be exceptions.

Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 08:32:05 AMI can see them remaining calm as picks 1, 2, 3, happen, but then if their guy (whomever it may be) is there at 4 or 5, I can see them getting so excited that they pull the trigger on a trade.  At that point, adrenaline will be overwhelming for them, not to make a move.

I think you are right.  They want their QB because I think they want to be here working for the Giants for a long time.

But at the same time if they make an aggressive move and draft a guy that turns out to be "just OK" or worse, it's going to light the dumpster on fire much more quickly. It's going to be interesting for sure.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on April 24, 2024, 01:14:59 PMI don't know..but Campbell has done a remarkable job in a few short years. And he's a team leader..big piece to Jared Goff's game.

A guy I always wanted to have a shot as the Giants' HC.

Greg Roman is another one.

Let's see what a butt-clinchingly embarrassing spectacle the NFL turns the event into this year.

Quote from: T200 on April 23, 2024, 09:53:52 PMI think the culprits are, in order:

1 - Scouting (talent identification)
2 - Coaching/player development
3 - Coaching instability/carousel

They tried to make a bacon cheeseburger but bought ground turkey instead of ground beef, thinking they could make it taste the same. They bought lean turkey strips because it looks like bacon. They settled for spinach because they couldn't find lettuce.

They have a gas stove but the chef didn't know how to work it. After burning several burgers, more chefs and ingredients were brought in but to no avail. They know what a good bacon cheeseburger is supposed to look like but collectively they have no clue how to make one like it should be made.

Absolutely. I've said the same thing. The Giants have a deeply systemic problem at every level when it comes to putting a competent offensive line on the field.

Quote from: coggs on April 24, 2024, 07:08:57 PMI am aware.  Few teams have, which is why I think if one of these guys fit that, they would do whatever they can to try to get him.

Many teams spend decades chasing that player. Despite the rhetoric about continuing to draft quarterbacks until you find him and all of the talk about how the game has changed and its a quarterback driven passing league, the old paradigm remains in place where a regime really only gets to push the reset button once before the head coach gets fired, and the gm gets to push the reset button once on the head coach before he himself gets fired.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Waller getting divorced
April 24, 2024, 08:08:50 AM
Quote from: kingm56 on April 24, 2024, 05:49:42 AMI'd argue his performance met expectations.  Waller was 3 years removed from his last notable season, and was extremely unlikely at 31 years old to duplicate his limited (only 2 of 9 seasons) success.  I failed to grasp Giant fans' rationale for predicting anything more than what Waller produced.     If he comes back next season, I'd anticipate similar production +/- 10%;.

Totally agree. Getting hurt is what the guy does and having players get injured is what the Giants do.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 23, 2024, 11:29:19 AMHow much time does Schoen thinks he has left in his Giants tenure?  If less he may swing for the fences this year and gamble on a QB.

I don't think Schoen's seat is as hot as many speculate. I don't really think Daboll's is either.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on April 23, 2024, 10:32:40 AMRich I agree that Jones is a team player. The article speaks about the media:

If the Giants go in this direction, they had better be prepared for the maelstrom that follows.

There is nothing more distracting to a team than having two quarterbacks for one job. Wait until Jones looks rusty in a training camp practice or he misses an open receiver in the season opener, or — heaven forbid — throws the ball up for grabs for an interception. From the moment the Giants are off the clock after taking a quarterback at No. 6, Jones' ownership of the starting job is on the clock. It is almost always an irrevocable decree: Your time is nearing an end.

Eventually it's unavoidable, unless you're willing to go into the draft or free agent pool with an obvious glaring need. Grocery shopping hungry comes with its own set of challenges.
