I vehemently disagree with the notion that you consciously walk away from drafting a QB you believe to be a franchise QB, simply because you don't have all the pieces on the rest of the roster to support him.

The above may well be a reason not to put said QB into your starting lineup in year one, but it is not a reason not to draft him at all, assuming you don't already have a franchise QB or someone you strongly believe is headed in that direction. It is extremely rare and tough to even be in the position to get a franchise QB. If you're in that position, and you need one, you have to take him no matter what the rest of the time looks like. Guess what - there are other rounds in the draft besides the first round. You can draft supporting players in the ensuing rounds of that draft, and you can dedicate the entire next offseason to building the offense aorund the QB if you want and just sit him his whole rookie year. Hell, the Packers kept Jordan Love on ice for two full seasons prior to starting him, and they now figure to be one of the better teams in the NFC this year.

There are all kinds of ways you can play it if you don't have a good enough team for everything to be perfect for your rookie, future star QB. But you have to get him into the organization if you have the opportunity. I don't think there is any question about that. The position is just too important to be messing around with it like that.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 03:57:11 PMTrading away a player you're almost certainly not going to sign in the middle of a lost season, so that you can acquire draft capital in a talent-loaded draft and improve your franchise for the longer term is not "giving up." It's doing what is best for your franchise. You can't only live in the moment and care about the very short run when you're running an organization with lofty longer term goals. That's what they clearly did here. I don't buy that they were planning on putting in a big effort towards signing him. Maybe Mara was hoping they would, but I don't buy that Schoen felt that way.

I think not trying to win because you THINK you will have some better position in the draft that's many months away is sending the wrong message to the team. You are asking these guys to put their health on the line and not try to not win? Silly. There are no guarantees that your better draft position will get you an impact player. I'd still like to know at what point in the season do you decide to tell your players you are going to throw in the towel?

I just read that Caleb has painted his nails pink and is walking around with a pink mobile phone.  I have nothing against color choices but folks will rush to judgment.  In no way does this help him and frankly folks may question his judgment to do something which may be misinterpreted.  Some here will say, "it doesn't matter."  Then it will.

Message to JJ.  Continue being you.

Quote from: LennG on Today at 04:36:30 PMRic. Not everyone is happy, including myself. Since you see no value in drafting a QB ASAP, who is going to man the helm for the Giants? Wow, what a choice between Jones and Lock. Sorry my friend, but anything else besides a QB with any #1 pick is akin to another 5 years of disaster, and I am running out of years to say wait until next year, and then the year after that and continue that logic for how many years now?

Agree 100% with this. The Giants have an advantage with the #6 draft position. Ari or SD don't move all that much, and would still get their desired pick at #6, especially SD. I want JJ. He wins, period, and has skills that Daboll can hone.

Quote from: Ed Vette on March 27, 2024, 11:04:56 PMHe knew in his heart that Doris would accept her and them or he would have made other choices. Other men and women faced with that situation or of an  interracial relationship may have either broken it off or become estranged. Ultimately love prevailed.

Maybe Ed, but I wouldn't have bet on that. But, as the original theme is, we can only raise our kids a certain way. After that, we need to let them fly on their own and make their own way. We may not be happy with the path that they chose to take, but, after that, the ball is in our court as one might say. We can either accept it and move on as a family or cut ties (as I have seen several families do). As for Wade, he does what he feels is right for his life and family. Maybe he isn't completely happy his children aren't considered Jewish, but we will never know that as I would never but in and ask. As I said, we have accepted their lifestyle and like it all or not, we have moved on.

You are so right about Jim. Gosh he would be in seventh heaven over this (no pun intended). I'm sure he will be watching with a good seat, right up front.

I have several songs by the Kinks that could be mistaken for the Beatles. Sound is remarkably alike.

I used KODI for many years and it worked great, when it worked. Every few months they, or someone, threw a wrinkle into the software and you had to basically start over. I thought it was completely killed a couple of years ago and haven't been able to use it since.

On a side note, I went to this Home show at the Nassau Coliseum this Sunday. It had many vendors selling everything from new windows to mosquito squad stuff to everything one might need for improving your home. But, lo and behold, there was a guy peddling some sort of box that was advertised as doing the same exact thing Bill is talking about, so how illegal could it be? He was selling this box as a show special for $300, reduced from $335. I didn't buy it as if I did go that route, I would buy something I know works well, like what Bill is recommending, but these things are out there now.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 12:41:31 PMIdeal hypothetical position:

JJ is still on the board and Minnesota desperately wants him. They trade both their first rounders and a 4th to the Giants to move up to 6th. If one of the WRs/TE(Bowers) is still on the board, Giants trade their new no.11 pick and a 3rd (or some kind of combinations of picks) to move back up to get him

Giants still have two first rd picks and everybody's happy :what:
