Still, every year???

Impossible to say, as I wasn't around for Elvis or the Beatles. And I couldn't have picked Swift out of a police lineup until she started dating Travis Kelce.

The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance. It is humbling to discover how many of our glib assumptions, which seem to us novel and plausible, have been tested before, not once but many times and in innumerable guises, and discovered to be, at great human cost, wholly false.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 18, 2024, 10:02:25 AMSo then we haven't been wasting Slayton, and we didn't waste Hyatts rookie year?

Any other team and Slayton is a 1000 yard wr every year and a solid #2. Any other team and Hyatt has a productive rookie year.

Yes a little has to do with the oline but if the qb refuses to go downfield then there's really nothing anyone else can do. Because Slayton and Hyatt ran open a lot last season because teams knew we wouldn't go deep.

How many snaps did Hyatt play his rookie season ? And how many of those were in Jones games ?

I do agree that Jones does not go deep like he should... but Galloday was a bust ... Waller and Hyatt barely played with Jones... This really is NOT a point to be made here

Goes back to what most scouts said, there isn't much past the top 90 in the class.

Quote from: President Rick on April 18, 2024, 03:18:22 PMif the first post is true, there might be some bidding up among interested teams.  TRADE DOWN.  I'd rather have 2 red chippers than a 'blue' chip bust, and those qb's have bust written all over them
Rick: My hope is that the Vikings will be the caller because they have two first round picks this year to give us.

I'm not one of those rooting for a trade down, but that might be a tough deal to refuse, especially if the Giants' absolute favorite QB and their absolute favorite WR are both gone (highly likely).

Incidentally, no one has reported that Vikings want Pick Six. They want Pick Three so far as I can tell.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 18, 2024, 07:55:07 PMWith all due respect, why does it being 12 years ago matter?
Because the game has changed drastically in the past 12 years. The NFl has passed so many rules to help not only the Qb but the WR among other things.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 17, 2024, 09:01:39 PMThat was 12 years ago but if Jones was throwing for 300 yards and 2 tds a game we wouldn't be having this discussion.

With all due respect, why does it being 12 years ago matter?

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 18, 2024, 04:16:51 PMIf that's the case we should definitely trade down, although I don't know who you're talking about.

In 2023 3 QBs were taken in the 4th round.  Only one played and he threw for 2200 yards.
In 2022 1 QB was taken in the 4th round and in 2 seasons threw for 2000 yards combined.
In 2021 1 QB was taken in the 4th round and he has 135 career passing yards.

Did I misunderstand your statement?  Hyperbole?  Color me confused.
My bad Howell was a 5th round pick not a 4th rd pick. Davis mills was a 3rd rd pick. Still the point remains that those guys coming in and putting up equal or better production on eqally bad teams is alarming.

That's a great way of articulating it.

I've been saying this for a long time, in "defense" of Jones.

You can get by with a bad OL and good skill players, or a good OL with bad skill players. But you won't get by with a bad OL & bad skills. NFL is too good for that.
