Title: BBH Weekend Pictures and stories (consolidated)
Post by: Bob In PA on August 05, 2012, 09:58:35 PM
This weekend I met some members of the Hall of Fame.
Not the pro football Hall of Fame.... the Bob In PA Hall of Fame.
They are 25 or so BBH contributors (along with a good number of spouses) who assembled in Albany this weekend to watch the Giants practice, share a few meals together, and generally just hang out for a great time centering on our love of the Giants.

This note is my way of notifying you that (in a private ceremony held a few minutes ago) you were inducted into my personal hall of fame.  Each of you is a unique individual who has his (or her) own remarkable variety of style, intelligence and class.  Meeting the group was quite memorable, not because you are Giants fans, but because you are something more important . . . a group of truly outstanding people.

Thanks for everything.  In more ways than one, it was a truly SUPER weekend.

Bob in PA

Bob, just got in. It was a pleasure to see you again. I'm glad you had a great time and got to meet so many of our wonderful posters. I knew you would enjoy their company,  the way I do. Hope this becomes a regular thing for you every year.

As as long as you hang with us handicapped guys, you get to meet the players. :ok: :ok: :ok:

And I got to meet some new people who I had never met before. Bill, Ted, Dennis is was great to finally meet you guys and hope we can do it again some time in the future.
Title: Thank you BBH
Post by: LennG on August 05, 2012, 11:04:37 PM
Following in Bob's footsteps, I need to take a minute to say thanks to certain BBHers who went above and beyond the so called, 'call of duty'.

#1 is to George (Giantsguy) for the use of his house, yard and everything else. He needs to be voted BBHer of the year for all the time and work he put into this event. Even the rain didn't dampen our party, we just moved it inside for a while. George and your lovely wife, you guys are the best.

To Weeze for lugging 15 pounds of speckled trout all the way from Florida and standing by the grill and cooking them 5 pieces at a time. Weeze, my friend, they truly were delicious, and I certify them Kosher so all can enjoy in the future. Too bad you couldn't join us when we went out for dinner, you would have loved it when the Japanese cook squirted sake into everyone mouth. Weeze, you have taken over as chef of the year for fish. Excellent job.

To Jaime, for letting me know that with my handicapped placard I could get into the Handicapped, VIP parking lot and get taken right down to the field seats. This worked out so well for us, so thank you for the great advice.

To Tom Coughlin for sending our own JimV a terrific birthday present. So we also need to thank Bill (Webster29) for taking charge of this and securing this terrific present. Tom sent Jim an autographed photo of himself, inscribed to Jim wishing him a happy birthday. Just a great job all around guys.

And I must thank everyone who was there for making my wife feel so welcomed there. This was her first BBH function and all the wives and our regular BBH crew made her feel as if she has always been part of the group. She thanks you and I thank you all for that.

Just a truly remarkably enjoyable weekend.

Thank you all for making it so.

This may take some time to get them all on here as I have to do it via Tapatalk because it automatically reduces the size to fit the attachment requirements. Those of you who are my Facebook friends can see it all on my Albums.

Let me just say, I feel truly blessed to have such wonderful friends!

Well, he sent a personalized photo to present to Jim. What a Great gesture to a Great lifetime fan. Jim's reaction was priceless!

You know him as President Rick. Here he is with another BBH original lady, my new Facebook bud Phyllis.

Actually, believe it or not, none of these Internet guru's have a Facebook page except for Bill and Paul. Of course, I hooked up with their lovely ladies.

Lenn, Shelley and I thank you for your kind words.  It really was a pleasure welcoming the BBH family into our home, litteraly thanks to the weather.  Indoors or out, we are so happy you all chose our home as the BBH bbq spot this year.  We both agreed that we hope we can host all of you, and anyone else who couldn't make it this year, again next year.  Really wonderful people. Shelley mentioned afterwards that she regretted not being able to spend more time talking and getting to know everyone, especially the wives.  We both agreed we'll have more chances for sure.

In short, thank you all for making our weekend so special.   Bill, just for you, I am totally enjoying my morning coffee in my BBH mug !!!

Oh, and I MUST add, to anyone who simply has any concerns that they will not fit in, or don't know anyone, or any other silly concerns NOT to come to our weekend, PLEASE just throw them in the trash. We had two brand new guests, BobinPa and Ted (Todge) who were welcomed as  just one of the gang regardless of if it's their first time or their 10th time. We are all family here, and I can personally guarantee anyone who attends any of our get togethers, they will have a ball. Either just watching a Giants training camp session, or breaking bread with friends, it is always a remarkable weekend.

Please try and make arrangements to attend next year, or when we do a get together to watch a game usually sometime in October.

We have a special group here, and anyone and everyone is welcomed to be part of it.  Don't just enjoy the pixs, be in them next year.

Plus Weeze brought so much fish, we could have fed half of George's neighbors also.

It's a good thing we know a few of the cops in Troy !!!  LOL...

I would like to add, the generosity of the board members who attended.  Everyone contributed and with all the food leftover, everyone agreed we should donate to a local homeless shelter in Troy.  The folks there were amazed and so thankful to receive all the food.  Nice call everyone.

I know we touched on this, but the wives on this trip all seemed to get along very, very well. They even rotated their time with each other. To me that was the most impressive thing about this weekend. Shelley, Joyce and Doris never ever attended a prior event, yet I would bet they would all like to get together for a girl's night out and feel very comfortable.

Very impressive.

Looks like you all had a great time!

Since I'm new hear I was curious, did you all know each other before BBH or you all know each other because of BBH? One of these days I would like to take my son up there for a weekend.

I have been posting for years (much to the chagrin of many!!) over at the old Board and now at this site.   I finally made it to Albany and had a great time meeting these guys.  I will definitely be returning, so I only hope I can meet more of my fellow posters next year.

Nice shots, Lenny.  I could've done without one, though.  How come you didn't get one of Patty?

Todge and BobinPa never met anyone before. I knew everyone except a few of the wives.  Strange thing is the first time any if us met, it wasn't awkward at all. Everyone just seemed to gel well.

Please, join us. If you can get to a tailgate, you're welcome of course too.

I would guess that about 40 members have met up with at least one other member and 25 have met several.

None of these guys bite.

Jim

As I said, it was hard with the umbrella in one hand and trying to hold my balance on the top of the bleachers.

I think Patti was more interested in talking with  Henry's parents than having her pix taken.

So if anyone is interested, I was sitting next to Rick and his lovely wife and they were sitting next to Henry Hynoski's parents, chatting away. They invited them and Henry to the BBQ, but alas Henry had already made plans to go to Saratoga. (See Terry, you would have had company up there). After Rich left, Patti Traina came over and had a nice chat with the parents also. After the session, our fearless leader happen to have on his Hynoski t-shirt and Henry's parents saw this and loved it. To add to that, Henry himself came over saw the shirt and insisted that Rich take a pix with him.

We're waiting Rich

I would also like to give a big Thank You to Ed.  He is the lead man on these outings.  He is the one who organizes and does the grunt work for getting the dinner reservations and communicating to all of us what the plans are.  Without Ed, we would all still be wandering around trying to fiqure out where we should go for dinner.

As I touched on before Ed, Shelley said later that night that her biggest regret of the entire day was that she wasn't able to visit more with all the ladies.  You're right, I think these ladies would have a great night out together.

To sort of echo what Ed said, and to answer your question, many of us started on another giants board, and thru that we started forming friendships. I was one of the first to venture to Albany, meeting with just 2-3 guys the first year. second year we added several more and by the 3rd year we were sort of tailgating in the parking lot. After that we started organizing a BBQ, with families and even with ex Giants as guests.
We can now travel throughout most of this country and have a friend near by. From Florida to Maine, from NY to California to Wisconsin to Texas to Montreal and even to London, we have members of our little family.

And as Ed said, try to join us for something. Once you do, you will be hooked,a ndf you get to see your Giants in action.

Len: I took the photo of Hynoski and Rich. Just sent it to him.  Assuming he posts it, if you look in the background you can see some lunatic (who probably escaped from an old folks' home and stole a field pass) bothering one of the other players.  Shortly after the photo was taken, security appeared and personally ushered the guy off the field.

If you ever read Mad Magazine, you read Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions  Example:

Well Barden had a couple of zingers to the off camera reporter.  He does not suffer fool(ish question)s gladly.

Anyway I will be coming to future BBQs, possibly on time,  but I will avoid Albany Practices like the plague. Yesterday's "getting Eli to sign a jersey" endeavor for my wife was a disaster.  No details will be forthcoming.  I will say that I stormed off hating myself for my naivete, Eli for giving us autograph hunters the bum's rush and whoever coordinates the autograph opportunities and had corraled us into a 30 foot wide stretch of access that was absurd.
It was a bit of a surprise that my two favorite players on the team as persons (Hixon and Carr) did stick around and patiently signed autographs for quite a while.  It confirms that I am a good judge of character but a bad judge of autograph opportunities.
Nice seeing everbody's friendly face posted.

Yes sir that is yours truly, with MR Bradshaw. I'm the one with the boney knees, grey hair. And I told Mr Bradshaw one of my famous jokes, you see he is laughing.

Oh, if anyone can see this dude in the background. he had the best jersey I had ever seen. On the front it said 'The Catch I" and it was a caricature of the Tyree catch. On the back it said, 'The Catch II" and it had a caricature of the Manningham catch.

Don't know who this guy was, but several players knew him.

Len, in 40 years of marriage (and maybe a couple more in cohabitation) I have botched more of my wife's birthdays than I care to remember.  It's a sore point.  I thought that this was going to be one of the best ever.  Never thought of diamonds, but diamonds really doesn't do it for her.  The truth is that my wife Karen is totally infatuated with Eli.  She Googles him every day like we Google the Giants.

Our daughter Caitlin, who thinks that our infatuation with the Giants and Eli is silly at best, has offered to me to take the day off, go down to Albany and wait at the fence for as long as it takes on the 14Th until he shows up on the chance that he he might be willing/available to sign the shirt I bought for Karen.  He is supposed to be signing that day.  She understands that it is silly but she knows how important this is to me that I get this right.  Eli doesn't mean very much to me, but my wife means everthing in the world to me.  I just would like to get this right for Karen (and myself as well).

You know that I lived in the Bronx when Y. A. Title and Del Shofner came to NY.  Maybe they would remember that 1st day of training camp I was there at Fordham U. to see them.  I was 10 or 11.  There was complete, unregulated access to players back then and there weren't crowds of people pressed up against fences begging for signatures either.  Y.A. knocked the stack of cards I had in my hand onto the road we were on and Del Shofner directed traffic around us while Y. A. helped me pick the cards back up.  I was shoulder to shoulder with Y. A. Tittle in 1961, he was on one knee next to me and completely apologetic and humble.  That was one hell of a moment for a kid who loved the Giants so much back then.

If anybody knows how to get Eli to sign this damn jersey, please let me know.

Ditto for me too Ed. I especially wanted to make this year's Albany BBQ, because I honestly believe it could be the last time the G_Men trip to the Capital District for summer camp.

Cyndi and I have such a great time each summer. But, this year events conspired against us joining what looked like another great time.

Thanks for sharing you great pics. It was nice seeing the old familiar faces, and the new ones too (I know what you look like now todge... (kidding)).
