My interest in trading down hinges on two things:

1) The trading partner offers a top 12-15 pick

and

2) We get a 1st rounder next year as part of the trade.

If they can achieve those two objectives, I'm all in on a trade down.

Quote from: nb587 on April 15, 2024, 05:00:00 PMI think that a quality OL and a decent running game had alot to do with Simms avoiding injuries as he got older.  It didn't hurt that Parcells turned him away from being a gunslinger into a game manager.  In his early years, behind a terrible OL, Simms would stand in the pocket waiting for weak WRs to get open on deep patterns, a recipe for injuries
Gotta disagree.

Even in our SB years Phil would take his share of poundings. He took a good beating through most of his career.

I agree that Parker and Phil's dedication to bulking up and staying in top shape were the difference in his ability to avoid major injury and play through being hurt like few that I've seen.

Taylor, Banks, Carson, Simms and Bavaro were warriors who stood out to me in that vein.

I believe he could be a rotational edge AND a center fielder.

Well I was thinking that by the trading deadline, most of the guaranteed $$ would be accounted for or could be restructured by the team trading for him.

There are a few thirsty teams out there...so that was my thinking on it.

Whether we draft a QB in the 1st round or not.

Do you believe that trying to find a team desperate enough for a Quarterback with whom to trade DJ is the appropriate move?

50 wins and the 2nd seed....Brunson scores 40 to insure the victory in OT.

This team is more fun to watch than any version  I've seen in years.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 13, 2024, 10:17:39 AMI dislike Dolan just as much as the next guy, but it's hard not to throw some credit his way for the Leon Rose hire.

I would also add that his other team, the NY Rangers, currently have the best record in the NHL with the regular season about to end. The Rangers were also in the Stanley Cup Finals less than a decade ago.

I can think of owners who have gotten way worse results with their teams over the past decade, and you don't have to look very far to find them.
More than fair points.

My point was that he's always been able to attract FO & Coaching talent. His downfall has often been his willingness to step out of the way and let them do their jobs.

Recently it appears, he's done a much better job of staying in his lane.

Absolute best case:

Trade down and stay inside the top 15 garnering either a 2nd and 4th this draft or a 3rd in this and a 1st next year.

With the pick we traded for, a top 10 receiver or a top 3 OL.

Worst case:

Trade up for a QB, giving up a 3rd this year and at least a 1st pick next year.

When the chances are low (IMO) that any of their choices are franchise changing.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 04, 2024, 07:06:16 PMWhile the Randle situation has been really unfortunate, as stated in a recent post, I really think the more important guy is OG. If they can get him back, while I don't think they're championship material, I wouldn't rule out a run to the ECF. If both OG and Randle are out, forget it, they're not getting out of the second round barring a miracle.

I'm not sure what the situation is with Robinson but I'm not overly optimistic, as he just seems delicate in general. And while I do think Robinson adds value, him being out is less of an issue because Hartenstein has proven to be a pretty solid fill-in that can take on real minutes.

The injuries this team got hit with this year were astonishing. This was like a NYG type season with injuries. It's usually not this bad in the NBA. Guys miss time but usually come back in 3-4 weeks.

I don't know what the latest is with OG, but he's really the key IMO. If they can get him back in good shape, they can maybe make some noise with what they have. If not, then forget it.
I totally agree with OG's impact on this team.

Now that he's healthy and MitchRob is getting some minutes, it actually looks like a more functional team in terms of ball movement and defensive spacing than it did earlier in the year.

That's a testament to the players and coaching. I am probably in the minority but I believe that keeping their foot on the gas will serve them well in the playoffs no matter their seed.

They remind me o little of the 2010 Giants, in terms of their underdog and NEXT MAN UP mentality.

We finally have a team with an outstanding core and culture and an attractive FA destination.

To all of that I only have one thing to say: Dolan, keep doing what you're doing = NOTHING!

Quote from: jgrangers2 on April 12, 2024, 03:07:29 PMExcept my philosophy isn't to take a QB just to take a QB. If the Giants drafted Daniel Jones just because they felt they had to take a QB, that was a mistake. I say this to all the people who say they'd be disappointed if we don't come out of this draft with a new QB.

My point is that if you like a QB and believe he can be your franchise QB for the next decade, there's nothing wrong with making your move to get him. You can't just sit around and wait for the next generational QB to fall into your lap.
So you're saying that the Giants drafted DJ just to take a QB, that they really didn't believe in him?

That extends FAR BEYOND Gettlemen and if true (which I'm not buying) is very disturbing.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 12, 2024, 02:11:39 PMNo one thought Lamar Jackson, Josh allen, or Pat Mahomes was a generational talent, so who's to say this class doesn't have one or multiple. In fact the great talents that have come out lately have been less than ie Lawrence, Herbert.
You're willing to bet three 1st round picks plus other picks on that with the condition of this roster?

I'm not.

Quote from: katkavage on April 12, 2024, 01:40:51 PMJones was a projected 3rd Round pick. Gettleman screwed that up. It was his incompetence as a GM, not the philosophy that was the issue.
My point is a reach is a reach. Giving up three 1st round picks and then some for anyone in this class (with the possible exception of Williams) is a massive reach.

Just as DJ @ 6 was a massive reach.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us upgrade at QB, and I'm open to trading up to make it happen.

But not at AZ's price.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on April 12, 2024, 01:26:27 PMThe issue is that those guys don't come out too often and the opportunity to trade up for such a player may not be there. You simply can't wait on QBs.
That philosophy landed us Daniel Jones.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 10, 2024, 09:22:06 PMI get playing safe but thise franchise has played it safe and not taken chances the past decade and where has that gotten us?

If we gave up a 2 1sts and 2 2nds for Josh Allen, no one would think twice. I get it there are risks, but anything is better than trotting out a backup for the 6th year in a row and hope we lose enough again next year to get a qb in a weak qb class.

So if they see a guy that they think is the guy, then yes absolutely. Neal, Wandale, Banks, and JMS are the last 2 1st and 2 2nd round picks, would you not trade an elite Qb for those 4 guys? Absolutely you would.
If this class offered a generational talent at Quarterback, I could align with your position. But each of the top 4 QBs have their own set of question marks.

Not worth that price to gamble on what could be a colossal bust.
