Big Blue Huddle / Re: Barkley to the Iggles

People here are funny and living in a fantasy world expecting professional NFL players to remain "loyal" to teams that don't have any loyalty to any player and will always do what they consider to be in their best interests. If you begrudge SB for going to the Eagles, you have no idea of the reality of the NFL.

As for his future: if he stays healthy, he will absolutely thrive (and probably kill us whenever we play him). But that's a BIG "if".

It's really no great loss. Wilson seems shot.

I don't think Daniel Jones can come back from his injuries.

Quote from: Philosophers on February 14, 2024, 10:27:17 PMToday they'd call a personal foul on thrat hit.

It's a great and legal hit, even today, but I got CTE just watching it.

This is from the days when we watched the NFL completely guilt-free, blissfully unaware (or only vaguely aware) of how it destroys the lives of players.

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 09, 2024, 08:07:57 AMWink is likely making $2 million instead of $3 million but the hours and the workload is significantly less at the college level

Coaches at the highest level don't care about stuff like hours.

Jeff Hostetler was excellent. A tremendous athlete, smart, good arm, a fighter. Bill Parcells spent years torturing him psychologically. He hated being a backup but starting in 1984 Simms was one of the best QBs in the NFL. Hostletler's performance down the stretch and the playoffs in 1990 after Simms got hurt was impressive, and that win over the 49ers in SF in the NFC championship game was tougher than most people remember. In the Super Bowl Hostetler was nothing short of heroic. He got hit pretty bad early on in the game but came back to lead the team to victory. Ottis Anderson was the rightful MVP but Hoss wasn't far behind. He's an all-timer Giants legend for me. Only one of three Giants QBs to win a SB ring.

Guys. Have you seen interviews with Tom Coughlin recently?

His football career is most definitely over. Nostalgia is never a good way to manage a football franchise. Let the man enjoy his golden years with his grandkids.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 26, 2024, 05:25:29 PMI just listened to Raanan's latest podcast.   He said he heard Belichick has told people he is not thrilled with the way the Giants are run these days.

Bill Belichik is coming off a 4-13 season. He single-handedly destroyed he career of his franchise QB Mac Jones. He ran Tom Brady out of NE because he was jealous of the credit Brady was getting for their joint success. He has been a failed head coach since Brady left. He recommended Joe Judge to the Giants as well as Brian Daboll. He can't get another job because of the perception that his SB-winning days are over and he's unbearable to work with to boot. I don't think he's in any position to pass judgment on how any other franchise is run, and part of the Giants' dysfunction is that John Mara keeps calling Belichik for advice and recommendations every time he needs to make a coaching change.

Bringing Belichik here is probably the worst thing they could do. I wish they had brought in Jim Harbaugh, but that's another story.

Quote from: Philosophers on January 27, 2024, 09:39:06 AMWait the Giants did not uncover this during their due diligence on him?

You mean the same Giants that made Joe Judge their head coach?

The Giants mishandled OBJ just like they mishandled a lot of things. Nothing much surprising here.

Schoen and Daboll are tied at the hip.

The problem, going back many years, and it was also the case in the 1970s when Wellington Mara ran the show, is that the franchise is too cavalier, and dumb, in its major hiring decisions. These are the people who hired Ben McAdoo, Dave Gettleman, Pat Shurmur, and Joe Judge, to the most important positions on the team. Judge and Daboll were both hired because John Mara gets his recommendations from Bill Belichik, who has a horrible coaching tree and doesn't have the Giants' best interests at heart. Two years ago they decided that the Bills, a decent team that still hasn't won anything, was the team to emulate. There is a deep rot in the Giants' franchise and I don't even think Daboll is the main problem right now.

"Growing the game" has always meant one thing for Goodell: enriching the owners. That's who he works for. This deal enriches them, period. That's all that matters here.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on January 08, 2024, 10:42:20 AMIf you get mad that the other team scored on you there is a simple answer.  Don't let them.

The Saints were in victory formation. If the offense were lined up normally for a goal line play, your argument would make sense. That's not on the defense.

Aaron Rodgers is a douchebag and always has been. An obnoxious, insufferable, selfish jerk.

Doesn't matter what your politics are. Lying about the vax was sheer douchebaggery. If you are one of the people who thinks the vax is bad or whatever, say that and accept the consequences, which is what several other folks in football did. Aaron Rodgers is only concerned with himself. Always has been. he also thinks he's some kind of independent thinker when really he's just a high profile troll.

I saw the episode of Hard Knocks which shows him talking down to a young Giants defender (can't remember who that was) who had the nerve to stand up to him. Judge for your self. It was clear that Rodgers has no respect for others.

One of my happiest moments as Giants fan was when we kicked his ass in the 2011 playoffs even though the refs did everything they could to try to help him win.

I don't care about Kimmel one way or another, but even mediocre comedians deserve not to be casually accused of pedophilia by a brain-dead QB.
