Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 28, 2024, 07:33:19 PMI think they were feeling pressure from above to make sure both Jones and Barkley remained Giants in 2023. I think the combination of that, plus the fact that there weren't really easy or obvious alternatives, led them to their decision. I don't think they were ever sky high on Jones. It was a confluence of circumstances (mainly the above) that led to the decision, and the contract they gave him, while very substantial, was structured in a way that they weren't tied to him for nearly as long as most teams tie themselves to QBs who get big second contracts.

Looking at how things have played out since the decision, I would say there is little doubt that they now wish they had franchised Jones and just signed Barkley to a three year deal with a two year out.

The benefits of hindsight.   Unfortunately injuries can be unpredictable, especially if you have a subpar medical department and you fail to protect your franchise QB

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 28, 2024, 06:48:03 PMI agree. Which is why it's perplexing to me that some fans feel they still haven't yet seen enough of Daniel Jones (1900 NFL passing attempts) to make a concrete evaluation of him.

Are you saying Schoen and Daboll didn't properly evaluate DJ before signing him to a big contract?

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 28, 2024, 03:27:47 PMIf we draft Penix, Schoen and Daboll need to retract the Tough/Smart/Dependable mantra. I'm not saying we shouldn't draft him, as I know he has some talent, but you can't walk around preaching "dependable" if your first or second pick in the draft is a guy who has had two ACLs before age 23. I'm sorry but that would be absurd. That tagline's credibility is already on very shaky ground after giving Jones a big contract with his injury history, even prior to 2023.

Do you think that Darren Waller fits the "smart/tough/dependable category?

From what I have witnessed from Schoen so far, that slogan seems more like an ideal than a hard and fast rule.

Quote from: Bill Brown on March 28, 2024, 03:25:13 PMI have 2 firesticks. I have 3 roku devices. These devices are not anything like a superbox. With those devices you download the apps you wish to use. Hulu Netflix etc. The superbox has no download function. If I want to watch live TV or movies there is no recording function no pausing option no rewind option. I have no ability to add any station or remove any station. I bought it to watch the local NY City CBS FOX NBC stations so I can watch the Giants games when the Maine stations show some other team. So I'm not going to worry about a police officer knocking on my door. But I appreciate your concern about me going to prison. And to show I'm not a total thief, I still pay for Hulu, Netflix, and Frndly every month even though I have rarely used them. I  still use 1 Roku device on my TV in my bedroom but the others are sitting in a drawer somewhere and if you would like one I'll be more than send you one free of charge.

Bill

Bill,

I am not judging you (although reading back on it, I could see why you might think that).  The companies (including the NFL) are bleeding people dry.   If there are cheat codes around that, I am not going to fault anyone.   From my research, it's unlikely they will go after the consumers; rather, they will likely target the people selling the stuff and providing the means.

That said, I do remember a few record companies going after the worst abusers of Napster when people were downloading music for free (while most people using the service were never bothered).

I am not a big proponent of copyright law. If a carpenter builds a staircase, they don't get to charge everyone who uses it; they get paid for the job.  I think it should be the same with entertainers; you get paid once and are done.  Hell, artists who paint don't get to charge for everyone who looks at their paintings.

Quote from: UKGiantsFan on March 28, 2024, 03:14:24 PMA big reason why you put people "on tge board" at '30' visits and ask them to explain both good and bad plays during interviews at the Combine. So much of QB'ing pre-snap is cerebral.  This is why we loved Eli

I suspect it's also why a QB whose film seemed worthy of a first-round selection lasted to round two.  Ceri, you are absolutely correct in why they put them on the board.   The problem is far too many coaches just think to themselves, "I just need to coach this kid up".

I heard this on the GiantsInsider podcast/youtube video I posted on another thread.  I heard that Lock's FBI was wanting (Lock had struggled to explain his college playbook).  So I did a bit of research and found this

NFL scouts on ground at
@UW_Football
 reporting to us that QB Michael Penix ran 4.52-4.57 range on multiple ⏱️.  He also posted 36.5 VJ and 10-6 BJ.

All three numbers are better than any QB that tested at Combine.

@themikepenix
 is only QB of "Big Six" potential first-rounders in 2024 class to run 40-yard dash. 🫡

As I say in the Giants scouting QBs hard, there is a large Giants contingent there to see Penix put up these impressive numbers.

@Bill Brown and @Sem

Bill mentioned this yesterday on the main forum.  From what I understand, this is sort of TV piracy for dummies.  The Superbox is essentially an overpriced android device that comes preloaded with what they call an unverified streaming service (a nice name, for they don't know if the programs are properly licensed).

The only real risk would be if the company gets sued and goes out of business (plus the sellers of the product face some risk, so they tend to be on the sleazy side).

You can actually download similar software to your computer or, say, a firestick that would do the same thing.

You can find all you need to know about this here:

That website also discusses the Superbox, they are not fans
